Job Description
Position Title: Intern, Legal Research
Reports to: Manager, Legal Research
Team: Policy and Legislative Affairs
Salary Range: $20.00 per hour
Hours and Duration: 20 hours per week from September through December

Position Summary
The Legal Research Intern will assist the Legal Research team with theย implementation of key activities under NASTADโs health systems legal and policy portfolio, including conducting public health legal research, synthesizing complex policy material, and supporting the development of deliverables to aid health department efforts to navigate federal, state, and local laws and policies.ย ย This position will provide the Legal Research Intern with the opportunity to expand their legal research and policy analysis skills in a meaningful wayย that supports public health efforts related to HIV programs.ย
Essential Duties
- Conduct statutory and regulatory research on topicsย relatedย toย HIV and hepatitis policy issues and legislation.ย
- Assistย in the development of resources,ย reports, tools/toolkits, and other materials based on legal research conducted.ย
- Execute amendments toย existing NASTADย statutoryย and regulatory researchย productsย to ensure accuracy of information.ย
- Overseeย updates to NASTADโsย 50-state jurisdictionalย analysisย of HIVย data privacy andย HIVย transmission laws.ย
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Capabilityย to manage multipleโฏpriorities and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environmentย whileย maintainingย strong attention to detail.ย
- Strong research,ย writingย and communication skills.ย
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.ย
- Familiarity and skill in legal research using Westlaw.ย
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.ย
Experience/Educationย
- Bachelorโs degree or higher or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experienceโฏthatโฏdemonstratesย theโฏcandidateโsโฏability to perform the positionโs duties.ย
- Accomplished a minimum of one year of law school and currentlyย in theย process of receivingย Juris Doctorate.ย
- Completedย at least one Legal Research and Writing course throughย Jurisย Doctorate program.ย
- Preference of oneย previousย intern or work experience in a legal office.ย
