Remote Land Development information

What is remote land development?

Remote land development refers to the process of planning, managing, and executing land development projects from a distance, often utilizing digital tools and communication platforms. This can include tasks such as site analysis, permitting, infrastructure planning, and coordination with stakeholders, all performed without being physically present on the property. Remote land developers often collaborate with local contractors and use technologies like GIS mapping, drones, and virtual meetings to oversee projects effectively. This approach has become more popular with advances in digital technology, making it possible to manage projects efficiently from anywhere.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Land Development professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Land Development professional, you need expertise in land use planning, real estate principles, and environmental regulations, often supported by a degree in civil engineering, urban planning, or a related field. Familiarity with GIS software, CAD systems, and project management tools is typically required, along with relevant certifications like AICP or PE. Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate with stakeholders and navigate regulatory processes. These capabilities are crucial for effectively planning, managing, and executing land development projects while ensuring compliance and stakeholder satisfaction.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote land development, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote land development often face challenges such as coordinating with team members and stakeholders across different locations, managing site assessments without frequent on-site visits, and navigating varying local regulations. These can be addressed by leveraging digital collaboration tools, utilizing GIS and remote sensing technologies for site analysis, and maintaining clear communication channels with local partners. Proactive planning and staying updated on regional compliance requirements are also key to overcoming these hurdles.

At Fugro, we support the development of sustainable infrastructure throughout every phase of the life cycle. When it comes to design and construction, we understand there's no one-size-fits-all solution - sustainable infrastructure projects need a tailored approach. That's how you get truly resilient structures.
We are seeking a strategic and results-oriented Sales Manager of Geotechnical Services to drive growth across energy, infrastructure, and ground investigation sectors by cultivating high-impact relationships with the greater Eastern United States Region. This role is responsible for identifying, qualifying, and converting opportunities into long-term partnerships and signed contracts. You will be instrumental in shaping Fugro's market positioning and expanding our footprint across key client organizations and industry networks.

This opportunity can function fully remote - relocation is not required.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead by example and place Quality, Health & Safety, Security, and the protection of the Environment as core values while never intentionally placing employees, our processes, customers, or the communities in which we live and work at risk.
  • Develop and implement a targeted commercial strategy for geotechnical site investigation services across all markets (Energy, Infrastructure and Ground Investigation markets).
  • Build and manage a structured sales funnel aligned with revenue and market penetration goals.
  • Customize approaches to meet sector-specific needs and challenges.
  • Identify and qualify leads based on technical fit, budget, and strategic alignment.
  • Engage stakeholders early in project lifecycles to influence planning and scope.
  • Present compelling value propositions and lead negotiations through contract execution.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory shifts, and emerging technologies to position Fugro as a thought leader.
  • Represent Fugro at industry events and forums to enhance visibility and influence.
  • Lead account-based marketing and customized engagement strategies.
  • Leverage CRM tools for data-driven decision-making and performance tracking.
  • Partner with technical, legal, finance, and marketing teams to ensure seamless client delivery and contract execution.
  • Monitor and report key metrics including lead conversion rates, pipeline health, and revenue growth.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • Authorized to work in the United States without restrictions
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineer, Geotechnical Engineer, Earth Sciences or related degree field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in geotechnical site investigation or closely related field is preferred.
  • Possess a deep understanding of the geotechnical services and site investigations
  • Strong network of contacts in key markets (infrastructure, energy, ground investigation) within the Eastern US region.
  • Ability to use financial statements as a management tool to drive business decisions and strategies
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite, PowerPoint, and CRM Software.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a clear driving record.
  • Must hold a valid passport for international travel.
  • This role will require up to 40% travel.
