Remote Land Development information

What is remote land development?

Remote land development refers to the process of planning, managing, and executing land development projects from a distance, often utilizing digital tools and communication platforms. This can include tasks such as site analysis, permitting, infrastructure planning, and coordination with stakeholders, all performed without being physically present on the property. Remote land developers often collaborate with local contractors and use technologies like GIS mapping, drones, and virtual meetings to oversee projects effectively. This approach has become more popular with advances in digital technology, making it possible to manage projects efficiently from anywhere.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Land Development professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Land Development professional, you need expertise in land use planning, real estate principles, and environmental regulations, often supported by a degree in civil engineering, urban planning, or a related field. Familiarity with GIS software, CAD systems, and project management tools is typically required, along with relevant certifications like AICP or PE. Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate with stakeholders and navigate regulatory processes. These capabilities are crucial for effectively planning, managing, and executing land development projects while ensuring compliance and stakeholder satisfaction.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote land development, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote land development often face challenges such as coordinating with team members and stakeholders across different locations, managing site assessments without frequent on-site visits, and navigating varying local regulations. These can be addressed by leveraging digital collaboration tools, utilizing GIS and remote sensing technologies for site analysis, and maintaining clear communication channels with local partners. Proactive planning and staying updated on regional compliance requirements are also key to overcoming these hurdles.

  • Develop and expand capabilities in advanced studies such as harmonics, arc flash, grounding modeling, insulation coordination, and equivalent impedance calculations.
  • Prepare study reports, perform self-QC, and review project inputs, standards, and client requirements.
  • Apply a strong understanding of system inputs and their impact on modeling outcomes, especially in complex scenarios.
  • Coordinate with studies and design teams to align project requirements, inputs, and deliverables.
  • Support project execution through clear communication of status, risks, and updates.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of models, analyses, and reports in accordance with company standards.
  • Provide guidance to junior engineers by sharing knowledge, reviewing work, and supporting technical development.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to solve complex technical challenges and expand expertise.
  • Participate in training, process improvements, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively, ensuring high-quality and timely deliverables.
  • Proactively communicate workload, risks, and potential delays to leadership.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
  • 3+ years of experience in power systems studies, electrical engineering analysis, or a related field.
  • Experience performing studies such as short circuit, ampacity, grounding, or reactive analysis.
  • Exposure to advanced studies such as arc flash, harmonics, or insulation coordination is a plus.
  • Proficiency with modeling and analysis tools such as ETAP, CYMCAP, WinIGS, or CDEGS.
  • Strong skills in Excel, MathCAD, or similar engineering calculation tools.
  • Understanding of QA/QC processes and experience reviewing engineering deliverables.
  • Knowledge of power systems fundamentals and industry standards such as IEEE, ICEA, and NFPA.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to apply engineering theory to real-world scenarios.
  • Ability to work independently while knowing when to seek guidance.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Interest in mentoring or supporting the development of junior engineers.

WHY EVS

  • Work on technically challenging projects that require advanced power system modeling and analysis.
  • Collaborate with a highly skilled engineering team focused on practical, high-quality solutions.
  • Take on increasing ownership of your work while developing leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Expand your technical expertise across a wide range of power studies and applications.
  • Join a growing company that values innovation, collaboration, and continuous development.
