Remote junior web developers often face challenges such as limited opportunities for direct mentorship, difficulty staying connected with their team, and managing time effectively without in-person supervision. What does a remote junior web developer do?

A remote junior web developer works with a team of developers to create new applications and websites. Unlike in-house web developers, remote junior web developers work from home or another location outside of the office. Remote junior web developers may occasionally attend meetings with clients to determine web design preferences or advise clients in-person about application maintenance, but they do the majority of their work remotely. The junior designation means you work under the supervision of upper-level developers in your department. But you still need to follow company protocols, federal regulations, and user needs when working on each project.

What does a remote junior web developer do?

A Remote Junior Web Developer is an entry-level professional who assists in building and maintaining websites or web applications while working from a remote location. They typically use languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and may work with frameworks or content management systems. The role emphasizes continuous learning and adapting to new web development trends.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote junior web developer, and why are they important?

Familiarity with version control systems like Git, basic knowledge of frameworks (such as React or Angular), and experience using collaborative tools like GitHub are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and effective written communication help you collaborate and learn in a remote environment. These skills ensure that you can build functional web applications, contribute to team projects, and adapt to the demands of remote work settings.

We are Olsson. We engineer and design solutions that improve the world around us. As a company, we promise to always be responsive, transparent, and focused on results – for our people, our clients, and our company.

This approach builds a culture that is uniquely Olsson. It allows us to grow our people as we grow our business. This, in turn, creates a lasting impact on the world around us.

Job Description

Olsson is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Structural Engineer to join our Federal Engineering and Design Team, where your expertise will directly support the development of mission-critical infrastructure across the country. From military installations and VA hospitals to federal campuses and secure facilities, you'll help shape the structural backbone of projects that serve national interests and improve lives.

This is more than a design role — it's an opportunity to lead, collaborate, and innovate within a team that values technical excellence, client service, and community impact.

As a Project Structural Engineer, you'll take ownership of structural design and coordination across a range of federal projects. Your day-to-day will include:

  • Lead structural engineering efforts for vertical infrastructure projects including barracks, hospitals, administrative buildings, and specialized federal facilities.
  • Perform detailed structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood systems. Develop construction documents including plans, specifications, and calculations.
  • Work closely with architects, civil engineers, mechanical/electrical teams, and federal stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of structural systems.
  • Apply design standards including UFC (Unified Facilities Criteria), IBC (International Building Code), ASCE, AISC, and other federal and industry codes.
  • Support proposal writing, scope development, and participate in federal RFP responses to help grow Olsson's federal portfolio.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, review work for quality and accuracy, and foster a collaborative learning environment.

Why Olsson?

  • Contribute to projects that serve national interests and make a difference in communities.
  • Choose from remote, hybrid, or in-office arrangements that support your lifestyle and productivity.
  • Join a team that values mentorship, innovation, and shared success. We celebrate wins together and learn from challenges.
  • Advance your career through leadership roles, technical training, and exposure to high-profile federal clients.
Qualifications

You are passionate about:

  • Working collaboratively with others.
  • Having ownership in the work you do.
  • Using your talents to positively affect communities.

We're looking for candidates who bring both technical expertise and leadership potential.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis.
  • PE or SE license (required).
  • 6+ years of experience in structural design, ideally with federal clients or projects.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk, Revit, and similar analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with DoD, VA, and federal design standards and processes.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to lead meetings, coordinate teams, and engage with clients.
  • Experience managing project schedules, budgets, and deliverables is a plus.
