What is a remote hotel photographer?

A Remote Hotel Photographer is a professional who specializes in taking high-quality images of hotels and their amenities, often working from a distance or while traveling. They capture photos that showcase the hotel's rooms, facilities, and atmosphere to attract guests, typically for use on booking sites, marketing materials, and social media. Remote hotel photographers may be hired directly by hotels, hospitality groups, or third-party content agencies, and they often use specialized equipment to ensure their work meets industry standards. With the rise of remote work and digital marketing, this role allows photographers to operate independently and serve clients in various locations. Success in this field requires both technical photography skills and an understanding of what appeals to potential hotel guests.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote hotel photographer?

To thrive as a Remote Hotel Photographer, you need a strong portfolio in architectural or interior photography, proficiency with professional camera equipment, and knowledge of lighting techniques. Familiarity with photo editing software like Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, as well as experience in remote collaboration tools, is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills set standout photographers apart, especially when coordinating with clients or hotel staff from a distance. These skills ensure high-quality visual content that accurately represents hotel properties and meets client expectations, even without on-site supervision.

How does a remote hotel photographer typically collaborate with hotel staff to ensure successful photoshoots?

As a Remote Hotel Photographer, effective collaboration with hotel staff is essential to ensure each photoshoot runs smoothly. Photographers often coordinate closely with property managers, housekeeping, and marketing teams to schedule shoot times, prepare rooms, and highlight key amenities. Clear communication about expectations, shot lists, and timelines helps avoid disruptions to guests and operations. Building a good rapport with staff also allows photographers to capture authentic moments that showcase the hotel's unique atmosphere, which is crucial for compelling marketing imagery.

Make an Impact Where Hospitality Meets Digital

Are you passionate about digital marketing, e-commerce, and creating experiences that turn online interest into real business results?

Shaner Hotels is looking for an E-Commerce Manager to help shape the digital presence and online revenue performance of our diverse portfolio of hotels. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic, data-driven digital marketer who enjoys combining creativity, analytics, technology, and hospitality to drive results.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to influence how our hotels are discovered, considered, and booked online. You'll work across a portfolio of properties and collaborate with Corporate Marketing, Revenue Management, Sales, Distribution, hotel leadership, and major hospitality brands including Marriott, Hilton, IHG, and independent hotels.

If you're someone who sees an underperforming website, digital campaign, or distribution channel and immediately starts thinking about how to make it better, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

Drive E-Commerce Performance

  • Develop and execute e-commerce strategies designed to increase direct bookings, online revenue, profitability, and overall digital performance.
  • Analyze hotel and market performance to identify opportunities, solve challenges, and recommend strategies that drive measurable results.
  • Partner with Revenue Management, Sales, Marketing, Distribution, and hotel leaders to align digital strategies with business objectives.

Elevate Our Digital Presence

  • Manage and optimize hotel websites to ensure they are engaging, easy to navigate, conversion-focused, and aligned with brand standards.
  • Lead regular website and digital presence audits, identifying opportunities to improve content, photography, offers, SEO, user experience, and conversion.
  • Develop and optimize digital content that connects with target audiences and encourages them to book.

Maximize Online Distribution

  • Oversee hotel presence across brand websites, OTAs, metasearch, and other approved online distribution channels.
  • Ensure property content, photography, descriptions, amenities, ratings, reviews, and offers are accurate, compelling, and competitive.
  • Work with hotel and Revenue Management teams to optimize channel strategies, promotions, packages, and online merchandising.

Turn Data Into Action

  • Monitor website traffic, conversion, revenue, channel contribution, campaign performance, and other key e-commerce metrics.
  • Create meaningful reporting and translate data into clear recommendations for Corporate and hotel leadership.
  • Test new ideas, evaluate results, and continually refine strategies to improve ROI and online revenue.

Lead Digital Marketing Initiatives

  • Coordinate digital marketing efforts including SEO, paid search/PPC, email marketing, online advertising, affiliate marketing, and other emerging digital opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, agencies, vendors, and brand partners to develop effective campaigns and compelling creative.
  • Stay ahead of emerging digital trends, technologies, and hospitality e-commerce opportunities.

Be a Digital Partner to Our Hotels

  • Build trusted relationships with General Managers, Revenue Managers, Directors of Sales, and hotel marketing teams.
  • Provide guidance, training, and best practices that help hotel teams understand and maximize their digital opportunities.
  • Serve as a key e-commerce liaison with our hotel brand partners and corporate stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

You're curious, analytical, creative, and results-oriented. You understand that great e-commerce is about more than maintaining websites and listings-it's about understanding the customer, using data to make smart decisions, and continuously finding ways to improve the path from search to booking.

Ideally, you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Hospitality, Business, Digital Marketing, Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in e-commerce, digital marketing, hospitality marketing, hotel distribution, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of SEO, paid search, website optimization, digital marketing, and online distribution.
  • Experience using analytics and reporting to measure performance and make business recommendations.
  • Excellent communication, writing, organization, and project management skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with both corporate and property-level teams.
  • A strong eye for detail and a passion for delivering high-quality work.
  • A collaborative mindset and the confidence to make recommendations, challenge the status quo, and take initiative.

Even better if you have: hotel e-commerce experience, experience with Marriott, Hilton, IHG, or other major hotel brands, and familiarity with GA4, Google Ads, SEO platforms, CMS systems, OTAs, metasearch, CRS/GDS, or hotel distribution systems.

Why Shaner?
