Their work involves designing and conducting user studies, analyzing data, and developing insights to improve the usability and accessibility of digital products. Remote HCI Researchers collaborate with designers, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure that technology is user-friendly and meets the needs of diverse users. They use a variety of research methods, including interviews, usability testing, and surveys, all conducted virtually.

We're always looking for talented, passionate professionals to join us in our mission to help change lives. If this sounds like an environment where you'd thrive, read on to learn more.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Ascend Learning is seeking a talented and forward-thinking UX Designer to create intuitive, user-centered experiences for our digital products. This is a role for a designer who brings strong design fundamentals and actively embraces AI tools as part of their creative process to move faster, think bigger, and concept more boldly. You'll collaborate with product managers, developers, and stakeholders to translate business goals and user needs into effective design solutions using AI-assisted workflows to rapidly explore design directions, generate concepts, and iterate with confidence. We're looking for someone who sees AI not as a shortcut, but as a creative multiplier-a designer who can harness it to spend less time on the routine and more time on the thinking that matters.
WHERE YOU'LL WORK
  • Hybrid from our Leawood, KS or Burlington, MA office. Will consider remote within the United States.

HOW YOU'LL SPEND YOUR TIME
  • AI-Augmented Design: Use AI tools (Claude, generative design tools, and emerging platforms) to rapidly concept solutions, explore design directions, and accelerate iteration-bringing ideas to life faster without sacrificing quality or rigor.
  • End-to-End UX Design: Partner with the design team to craft user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes that balance user needs with business outcomes.
  • Research & Validation: Plan and conduct user research and usability testing to surface meaningful insights and validate design decisions with real evidence.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to present, discuss, and refine design solutions across the full product lifecycle.
  • Design Systems: Contribute to and evolve our design system, ensuring scalable, consistent experiences across products and platforms.
  • Design Excellence: Champion best practices in interaction design, accessibility, and design patterns.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, HCI, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in UX or product design
  • Proficiency in Figma; experience with AI-powered design and ideation tools (Claude, generative tools, or similar) strongly preferred
  • Experience working with front-end developers and contributing to design-to-dev handoffs
  • A natural collaborator with strong communication skills and the ability to present and defend design decisions to diverse audiences
  • A critical thinker who can navigate ambiguity, solve complex problems, and drive work forward independently
  • Portfolio demonstrating your design process, range of work, and ability to connect design decisions to user and business outcomes
