What does a Remote Game Simulation Programmer do?

A Remote Game Simulation Programmer designs, develops, and maintains the underlying systems that simulate real-world or fantastical behaviors in video games, such as physics, AI, or environmental interactions. Working remotely, they collaborate with other developers and designers to create realistic and engaging game experiences, often using programming languages like C++ or C#. Their work ensures that in-game actions and events behave as intended, helping to bring the game's world to life for players.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Game Simulation Programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Game Simulation Programmer, you need strong programming skills (typically in C++ or C#), a solid understanding of physics/mathematics, and experience with game development, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine, version control systems (e.g., Git), and debugging tools is essential, with certifications in game development being advantageous. Excellent problem-solving, self-motivation, and effective remote communication are critical soft skills for collaborating within distributed teams. These skills ensure robust, realistic simulations, efficient workflow, and successful integration within the broader development process.

What is the difference between Remote Game Simulation Programmer vs Remote Game Developer?

AspectRemote Game Simulation ProgrammerRemote Game Developer
CredentialsBachelor's in Computer Science, Programming skills, experience with simulation toolsBachelor's in Computer Science, Programming skills, game design knowledge
Work EnvironmentCollaborates with designers and engineers on simulation systemsWorks on overall game development, including gameplay and mechanics
Industry UsageUsed in simulation-heavy games, training apps, VR experiencesUsed across all game genres for core development

The Remote Game Simulation Programmer specializes in creating realistic simulation systems within games, focusing on physics, AI, and environment interactions. In contrast, the Remote Game Developer has a broader role, handling overall game design, coding, and gameplay features. Both roles require strong programming skills and often overlap, but the simulation programmer concentrates on simulation fidelity and technical accuracy.

How do Remote Game Simulation Programmers typically collaborate with designers and other developers while working from different locations?

Remote Game Simulation Programmers frequently use project management tools, version control systems, and regular video meetings to stay aligned with designers, artists, and other programmers. Clear communication is essential, as programmers need to interpret design documents, provide technical feedback, and ensure that simulations function as intended within the game world. Collaboration often happens through shared repositories and agile development practices, allowing team members to review code, exchange ideas, and solve issues efficiently despite being geographically distributed.

Job description

ABOUT US
ARRISE is a global leader in software development and services for the iGaming industry, powered by 11,000+ professionals spanning multiple disciplines and 14 locations worldwide.
At ARRISE, we know a thing or two about making great games. From concept to execution, we combine creativity with technical excellence to shape the future of player engagement, driving our business and industry forward.
Our teams plan, prepare, and produce every title in a packed multi-product roadmap, having created over 1,800 slots to date. Game artists, developers, mathematicians, sound technicians, product marketers, regulatory experts, and other stakeholders from across the business all work together on delivering new player favorites at scale and pace.
ARRISE USA represents our growing footprint in one of the world’s most dynamic tech and entertainment markets. With a remote team of product experts, we’re tapping into American talent to drive the next generation of iGaming innovation.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re building a brand-new, US-based, fully remote game studio developing new slot games and we’re looking for an experienced Math Tools Engineer to build out a new math simulation and verification toolkit to support our mathematicians.
In this role, you’ll collaborate with a team of mathematicians to design and support the tools they use to simulate slot games, validate math calculations, sample game play statistics, and deliver math specification data to the game engineering teams.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
  • Own the full math simulation and verification toolkit for the studio, including defining requirements, executing development, and providing ongoing support
  • Collaborate with the studio’s mathematicians to understand needs and plan the toolkit requirements and enhancements
  • Produce and maintain clear documentation for the toolkit
  • Provide ongoing support for the toolkit, including maintenance, enhancements, troubleshooting, and training
  • From time to time, support the studio’s mathematicians by implementing games in development in the math toolkit
  • Regularly play competitors’ games in the iGaming and land-based spaces to stay abreast of industry trends and new mechanics
WHAT WE ASK OF YOU
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years of that experience related to implementing the math or gameplay of real-money slot games for iGaming or land-based markets
  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Expertise in C++ or C# preferred
  • Familiarity writing software that interfaces with Excel and/or Excel files
  • Ability to write clean, readable, and extensible code that can be used by mathematicians to implement their math models
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially the ability to clearly communicate complex and technical concepts to stakeholders across the globe
  • Passion for games and learning industry trends, emerging game mechanics, and player expectations
  • You should:
    • Be able to move comfortably between strategic and detailed levels
    • Bring strong organization and structure to a fast-moving environment
    • Have a passion for problem solving in complex systems
    • Obsess over detail and refinement
    • Provide, accept, and act on feedback constructively
