A Remote Fulfillment job involves processing, packing, and shipping customer orders from a remote location, such as a warehouse or distribution center. Responsibilities may include managing inventory, coordinating shipments, and ensuring timely order deliveries. These roles often require attention to detail, organizational skills, and proficiency with fulfillment software. Some positions may also involve customer support or handling returns.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote fulfillment?

Success in Remote Fulfillment requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience with inventory management or order processing, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), shipping software, and tools like Microsoft Excel or other tracking platforms is frequently needed. Excellent time management, proactive communication, and the ability to work independently are valuable soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure accurate, timely order fulfillment and effective collaboration with remote teams and customers.

What are some common challenges faced in a remote fulfillment role and how can they be managed?

One common challenge in a Remote Fulfillment position is coordinating logistics and inventory control when not physically located in a centralized warehouse. To manage this, it’s important to maintain clear communication with team members, use reliable tracking software, and regularly update order statuses to prevent errors or delays. Staying organized and adhering to established processes also helps efficiently handle large volumes of orders and resolve any shipping issues promptly. By proactively addressing these challenges, you can contribute to a smooth and efficient remote fulfillment operation.

Job description

Job Summary

As a Project Fulfillment Consultant, you will play a critical role in the operational execution of complex customer projects, taking ownership of the logistics required to move orders from planning through delivery. You will coordinate across internal teams and external partners, manage competing priorities, and use sound judgment to navigate challenges and keep projects on track. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, organization, problem-solving, and the ability to work effectively in situations where the path forward is not always clearly defined. You will also use data and reporting to identify opportunities, improve processes, and support decisions that strengthen operational performance. This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on how we execute projects and deliver for our partners.

Responsibilities
  • Manage β€œStaged Order” Projects: these are large orders offered to customers in need of a tailored, consolidated order, and a pre-scheduled delivery. These orders can consist of either first-time opening orders for new locations or large replenishment orders for existing locations. It is the Project Fulfillment Consultant's duty to map out each project’s road map, identify and coordinate with an optimal staging location, facilitate the sourcing, allocation, and consolidation of inventory, and ensure smooth shipping and delivery to the customer.
  • Oversee β€œRollout” Projects: these projects involve the distribution of an item or items to multiple locations. In the chain restaurant distribution industry, a rollout is typically when an item or set of items is shipped to all restaurants within the chain (or all restaurants within a test market). The Project Fulfillment Consultant is responsible for ensuring stock counts can meet the needs of the customer and coordinating with the warehouse on any special packaging or delivery requirements.
  • Facilitate β€œBulk Order” Fulfillment: these are typically large, non-traditional orders that require tailored oversight due to their size and scope. The Project Fulfillment Consultant’s job is to advise on the sourcing, cost-effectiveness, and timeline of these orders, and to provide project specifications and shipping instructions to our warehouse team.

Ultimately, the Project Fulfillment Consultant is responsible for the sustained profitability, integration of best practices, and development of operational efficiencies as it relates to the fulfillment of staged and consolidated order projects for both the multi-unit and institutional market segments of the food service industry. This position serves as a trusted advisor to management, customers, and account managers regarding the complex nuances of opening order consolidation, bulk shipments, rollouts, and other forms of project fulfillment.

This position also responds to complex fulfillment issues that can be urgent or unstable and typically can only be completed successfully within a limited time. Balancing time between strategic projects and day-to-day customer needs is a critical component for success in the position.

Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed while sitting/standing and interfacing with a personal computer.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires occasional bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
  • Requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 50lbs.
Remote Work Qualifications
  • Access to a reliable and secure high-speed internet connection. Cable or fiber internet connections (at least 75mbps download/10mbps upload) are preferred, as satellite connections often cannot support the technologies used to perform day-to-day tasks.
  • Access to a home router and modem.
  • A dedicated home office space that is noise- and distraction-free. The space should have strong wireless connection or a wired Ethernet connection (wired connection is preferred, if possible).
  • A valid, physical address (apartment, suite, etc.). PO Boxes are not supported, as a physical address is required for you to receive your computer equipment.
  • The desire and ability to work and communicate with other team members via chat, webcam, etc.
  • Legal residents of one of the following states: (AK, AL, AR, AZ, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NM, NV, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WI, WV, or WY). H-1B Visa Sponsorship Not Available, W2 only.
Experience

Experience in logistics, project management, and/or reporting is preferred

Education

This role does not require a degree. We value relevant skills and experience and alignment with our core values above all else.

  • Strong emotional intelligence required with the ability to connect with others in-person and remotely
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
