Flex Specialist (Full Time)


Department: Store Operations

Reports To: General Manager

Location: Portland, OR


Job Summary

The Flex Specialist is a highly versatile, cross-trained role responsible for supporting the General Manager by performing critical tasks across multiple BuyWander warehouse operations based on daily business needs. This role requires sustained physical activity and the ability to execute a wide range of responsibilities efficiently throughout each shift.


Responsibilities

The Flex Specialist is assigned daily to the area where the General Manager needs the most support and must be prepared to perform any of the following duties:


General Flexible Deployment:

  • Report to the General Manager daily for assignment to the most critical operational area, including Material Handling, Production, or Order Fulfillment.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity, meeting or exceeding quotas and minimum units per hour (UPH) goals for all assigned functions.


Material Handling and Inventory:

  • Unload trucks and containers by hand or by using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment.
  • Conduct physical inventory scans and stock all newly finished products in appropriate warehouse locations.
  • Organize warehouse shelves and condense items to create space for incoming products.


Production Processing:

  • Ensure a continuous supply of materials to Production Team members, keeping workstations stocked with necessary inventory.
  • Use a smartphone application and scanner to efficiently process inventory.


Order Fulfillment:

  • Retrieve items from various warehouse locations according to pick waves using a smartphone and Bluetooth scanner.
  • Verify order accuracy and completeness.
  • Claim, grab, verify, and deliver customer orders with accuracy and urgency.
  • Assist customers with carrying orders to their vehicles.
  • Process customer returns according to company policies.


Requirements:

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a warehouse, production, or physically demanding role is preferred but not required.
  • Forklift certification is a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to operate a smartphone and Bluetooth scanner.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.


Physical Requirements

This role involves sustained physical activity throughout the shift. The following are bona fide requirements of the position:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach overhead frequently.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace in a goal-driven environment.
  • Position requires seeing, hearing, use of hands and fingers, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
  • Must be able to communicate with others including talking, hearing, and listening and exchanging communication.
