Summary
About the Position: This position is located at Fort Riley , Kansas.
A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.

Duties
Help
  • Responsible for conducting both internal and external patrols of the hospital, parking lots/garages, and grounds.
  • Duties include execution of the physical security, crime prevention and anti-terrorism programs as directed by the MTF Provost Marshall/ Security Officer.
  • Execute Ransom Anti-Terrorism Measures (RAM) as directed.
  • Conduct and document patrols of all Mission Essential or Vulnerable Area (MEVA) and High-Risk Targets (HRT) identified by the Hospital Commander.
  • Respond to incidents, provide written reports of suspicious persons or items; de-escalate disturbances; and restrain combative individuals to include patients, visitors, or staff.
  • Monitor personnel access via both personal sight and electronic access control systems into restricted areas and intrusion detection system alarms using both manual and electronic methods.
  • Perform duties at static and roving positions to direct patients, visitors, vendors and contractors op the appropriate MTF office, ward or clinic, as needed.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS
  • Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
  • This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
  • This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendments to the Gun Control Act.
  • Pass Security Guard and Firearms Training and Qualification within 90 days of employment.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above):
Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. For Security Guard positions in a hospital setting, experience as a psychiatric nursing assistant or a similar position safeguarding patients is qualifying.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • Firearms testing and successful qualification to service component published standards required on a semi-annual basis. This may include firing at night, with one hand, or while under time or physical stress.
  • Position requires employee to perform routine and emergency daily duties while wearing a uniform and/or protective clothing to include facial/ head worn protective masks (SAPR, SCBA, etc.) soft body armor where assigned, and duty belt with police equipment weighing several pounds.
  • You will be prepared to execute the lawful orders of critical incident commanders, military or civilian, and assigned duties as such. During such actual emergencies/ critical incidents, you may incur, without prior notice, extra shifts, long hours standing at security or traffic control posts, extended duty hours between meal breaks, and working outdoors in inclement weather for extended periods of time. Such duties, even if performed properly may place you in danger of severe personal injury, loss of limb, or even death.
  • This position authorizes the incumbent to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition (Title 18, U.S.C., Section 922(g)(91)). Candidates who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not qualified for this position. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense. False or fraudulent information provided by candidates is criminally punishable by fine or imprisonment (Title 18, U.S.C., Section 1001).
  • Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
  • Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
