Remote formulary management is the process of overseeing and updating a list of approved medications (the formulary) for a healthcare organization or insurance plan, performed by pharmacists or pharmacy professionals working offsite or from home. These professionals ensure that the formulary is up-to-date, cost-effective, and evidence-based, while also addressing medication access and regulatory requirements. Remote work allows for flexible collaboration with healthcare teams and the use of specialized software to review drug utilization, analyze data, and communicate updates efficiently. This role is essential for optimizing patient outcomes and managing healthcare costs.
