This role is eligible for remote work. However, team members who live within a commutable distance of one of Shake Shack's Support Centers will follow a hybrid schedule and are expected to work onsite three days per week.
Job Summary
The Manager of Food Safety leads the development and execution of enterprise food safety programs across all Shack operations, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while protecting brand integrity and guest trust. Reporting to the Director of Food Safety & Quality Assurance, the Manager of Food Safety partners closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Culinary, Training, and Quality teams to embed food safety into daily execution and to drive a strong, sustainable food safety culture across all levels of the organization.
Job Responsibilities and Duties
  • Leads the in-Shack food safety auditing program and ensures the program remains aligned with the expectations of the Food Code and other regulatory agencies. Ensures the continuous improvement of the program to meet company KRIs. Reports out the results of the program quarterly for review by operations leaders as well as the audit committee.
  • Drives cross-functional alignment for the implementation, execution, and continuous improvement of digital Shack facing food safety tools. Ensures that operations leaders are versed in these tools; provides reporting and data analysis on a quarterly cadence.
  • Analyzes local regulatory food codes to ensure compliance with Shack food safety programs at the restaurant level. Delegates execution of permit processes or regulatory inspections to Regional Food Safety Specialists.
  • Leads the review and when necessary, the intervention of Shack DOH reports. Provides in-person training and recovery for locations that may have had multiple unacceptable DOH inspections. Delegates intervention measures for less critical inspections to the Regional Food Safety Specialists.
  • Owns the development and execution of a regional food safety program which encompasses food safety training at all NSOs, continuous monitoring of food safety KPIs across all areas of responsibility, and the intervention at locations which may fall short of expectations.
  • Manages the Shack HACCP program on behalf of all Shack locations in which it is a regulatory requirement, as well as a tool for cross-functional departments as a part of the permitting and NSO process.
  • Provides food safety subject matter expertise when questions arise outside of the scope of Shack SOPs.
  • Supports FSQA late-night and weekend coverage for critical food safety events.

Education Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree - Preferred
Education or Certificate Details:
Food Science, Microbiology, Public Health or related field
Work Experience: 4-6 years
Supervisory Experience: 1-3 years

  • 4-6 years food safety experience in chain restaurant or manufacturing setting preferred
