What does a Remote Embraer 145 Pilot do?

A Remote Embraer 145 Pilot is responsible for operating and navigating the Embraer 145 regional jet, often from a remote or flexible location, depending on the employer's policies. Their duties include pre-flight planning, monitoring weather and flight conditions, communicating with air traffic control, and ensuring passenger and crew safety throughout the flight. While most piloting is done onboard, 'remote' in this context usually refers to the flexibility in base location or commuting rather than flying the aircraft remotely. Pilots must adhere to aviation regulations and maintain their certifications and ongoing training.

What is the difference between Remote Embraer 145 Pilot vs Remote Bombardier CRJ Pilot?

AspectRemote Embraer 145 Pilot

The Remote Embraer 145 Pilot and Remote Bombardier CRJ Pilot share similar credentials, such as commercial pilot licenses and type ratings for regional jets. Both work in remote or virtual environments, often for regional airlines or charter services. The main differences lie in aircraft type and specific operational procedures. While the Embraer 145 is a regional jet with unique handling characteristics, the Bombardier CRJ series has its own operational nuances. Both roles are common in the regional airline industry and require similar certifications and experience levels.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Embraer 145 Pilot, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Embraer 145 Pilot, you need an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL), type rating for the ERJ-145, and substantial multi-engine jet experience. Familiarity with aviation management software, flight planning systems, and electronic flight bags (EFBs) is crucial for efficient operations. Exceptional situational awareness, communication, and decision-making skills set top pilots apart, especially when coordinating remotely with dispatch and crew. These abilities are vital to ensure flight safety, regulatory compliance, and smooth operations in a remote working environment.

What are some unique challenges faced by Remote Embraer 145 Pilots, and how can they prepare for them?

Remote Embraer 145 Pilots often face challenges such as maintaining effective communication with ground teams and adapting to rapidly changing weather or airspace restrictions without immediate in-person support. To prepare, pilots should be proficient with digital communication tools, stay updated on remote dispatch protocols, and participate in recurrent simulator training tailored for remote operations. Building strong situational awareness and self-reliance are also key, as remote pilots may have fewer opportunities to consult with colleagues face-to-face during flights.

Job description

Total Aviation Staffing is hiring a Remote Strategic Sourcing Specialist โ€“ Aftermarket Aviation Parts for our client, a growing aviation and aerospace organization supporting commercial and military aircraft programs.

This role is ideal for an experienced aviation sourcing, procurement, or purchasing professional who knows how to find, qualify, negotiate, and secure aftermarket aircraft parts in a fast-moving environment. You will source components for both commercial and military platforms, build relationships with suppliers, support AOG requirements, and help ensure high-quality parts are delivered on time with proper documentation and traceability.

If you have experience sourcing hard-to-find aircraft parts, working with OEMs, MROs, repair stations, distributors, and surplus suppliers, this is a strong remote opportunity where your aviation parts knowledge can directly impact operational success.

What Youโ€™ll Do

As a Strategic Sourcing Specialist, you will manage sourcing, purchasing, supplier relationships, and procurement activity for aftermarket aviation components.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Source and procure aftermarket aircraft parts for commercial and military aircraft platforms.
  • Build and maintain relationships with OEMs, authorized distributors, MROs, repair stations, brokers, and surplus inventory suppliers.
  • Identify alternate sourcing channels to improve cost, availability, quality, and lead times.
  • Request, review, and compare supplier quotations.
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery timelines, terms, and purchasing agreements.
  • Expedite critical material requests to support AOG and urgent operational needs.
  • Verify documentation, traceability, certifications, and regulatory compliance for procured components.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain, Engineering, Production, Quality, and Program Management teams.
  • Monitor supplier performance and assist with corrective actions when service levels, quality, or delivery standards are not met.
  • Support inventory forecasting and strategic purchasing initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records in ERP/MRP systems.
  • Support sourcing strategies that align with cost, schedule, quality, and program requirements.
What Weโ€™re Looking For

The ideal candidate is resourceful, detail-oriented, and experienced in aviation aftermarket sourcing. You should know how to move quickly without cutting corners, especially when dealing with AOG needs, traceability, documentation, and supplier reliability.

This role is a strong fit for someone who understands that in aviation parts procurement, โ€œcheap and fastโ€ means nothing if the paperwork is a disaster. The part has to be available, compliant, traceable, and delivered when promised. Thatโ€™s the game.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in aviation sourcing, procurement, purchasing, or supply chain.
  • Proven experience sourcing aftermarket commercial and/or military aircraft parts.
  • Strong understanding of aviation supply chain processes and aftermarket distribution.
  • Experience working with OEMs, MROs, repair stations, aviation parts distributors, brokers, and surplus inventory suppliers.
  • Ability to source difficult, obsolete, or hard-to-find aircraft components.
  • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
  • Ability to review quotes, compare options, and make informed sourcing recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of documentation, traceability, certifications, and compliance requirements for aircraft parts.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with commercial aircraft platforms such as Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, and Bombardier.
  • Experience with military aircraft platforms such as C-130, F-16, F-15, KC-135, C-17, CH-47, UH-60, AH-64, or similar.
  • Experience in an FAA Part 145 Repair Station environment.
  • Knowledge of government and defense procurement processes.
  • Understanding of FAA, AS9100, ISO, and military quality standards.
  • Experience supporting AOG sourcing, urgent material requirements, or high-priority program needs.
  • Experience with strategic purchasing, supplier scorecards, inventory planning, or cost-reduction initiatives.
Why This Role Stands Out

This is a remote opportunity for an aviation sourcing professional who wants to play a meaningful role in aftermarket parts procurement, supplier strategy, and aircraft support operations.

This opportunity offers:

  • Remote work
  • Competitive salary of $80,000 โ€“ $100,000
  • Commission/bonus opportunities
  • Opportunity to source parts for commercial and military aircraft platforms
  • High-impact role supporting AOG and mission-critical requirements
  • Exposure to OEMs, MROs, repair stations, distributors, and defense-related aviation programs
