What is a remote embedded software engineer?

A remote embedded software engineer is a professional who designs, develops, tests, and maintains software that runs on embedded systems, such as microcontrollers or specialized hardware, while working from a location outside the traditional office environment. These engineers typically collaborate with hardware teams, write code for real-time or resource-constrained systems, and use remote tools to debug and deploy software. They may work in industries like automotive, medical devices, consumer electronics, or industrial automation. Remote embedded software engineers rely on communication and project management tools to coordinate with their teams and ensure product quality.

What are remote embedded software jobs?

Remote embedded software jobs include embedded software engineer positions. As a work from home embedded software engineer, you develop embedded software systems for a variety of computerized devices. Your responsibilities start with assessing your client’s needs. You then design and code the embedded software, troubleshoot your software systems, perform research and test actions on the software, and implement software updates whenever necessary. Other duties include maintaining the software programs, documenting solutions to issues, providing the necessary post-production support, and reviewing the implemented system to debug the embedded environment and interpret error reports.

Cleerly

Denver, CO • On-site, Remote

Full-time

Job description

About Cleerly

We're Cleerly – a healthcare company that's revolutionizing how heart disease is diagnosed, treated, and tracked. We were founded in 2017 by one of the world's leading cardiologists and are a growing team of world-class engineering, operations, medical affairs, marketing, and sales leaders. We raised $223M in Series C funding in 2022 which has enabled rapid growth and continued support of our mission. In December 2024 we received an additional $106M in a Series C extension funding. Most of our teams work remotely and have access to our offices in Denver, Colorado, New, York, New York, Dallas, Texas, and Lisbon, Portugal with some roles requiring you to be on-site in a location.

Cleerly has created a new standard of care for heart disease through value-based, AI-driven precision diagnostic solutions with the goal of helping prevent heart attacks. Our technology goes beyond traditional measures of heart disease by enabling comprehensive quantification and characterization of atherosclerosis, or plaque buildup, in each of the heart arteries. Cleerly's solutions are supported by more than a decade of performing some of the world's largest clinical trials to identify important findings beyond symptoms that increase a person's risk of heart attacks.

At Cleerly, we collaborate digitally and use a wide variety of systems. Our people use Google Workspace (GMail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides), Slack, Confluence/Jira, and Zoom Video, prior experience in these areas is a plus. Role or department specific technology needs may vary and will be listed as requirements in the job description.

While we are mostly a remote company, travel is required for some team meetings and cross function projects typically once per month or once per quarter, for some roles like sales or external facing roles travel could be up to 90% of the time.
Cleerly is committed to providing safe and effective medical software that meets customer needs and our intended use. The adherence to all applicable regulatory and statutory requirements establishes a clear framework for setting measurable quality objectives. Our commitment to continually improving our products and processes proactively manages risks, ensuring ongoing compliance throughout the entire software lifecycle. Understanding this role's relevance and importance is critical to achieving Cleerly's quality objectives.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a hands-on, frontend-strong full-stack engineer to own the clinical reporting experience at the heart of our imaging platform. This is a high-impact individual contributor role — you will be the primary engineer driving the reporting UI and clinical workflow that cardiologists and radiologists use to review, finalize, and deliver results.

Our engineering team skews backend-heavy, which means there is significant frontend work ahead and real ownership available for the right person. You will work directly with clinical stakeholders — cardiologists, radiologists, and Core Lab teams — to shape workflows that directly impact patient care.

The ideal candidate is a strong React/TypeScript engineer who is equally comfortable on the backend, has built clinician-facing interfaces before, and is genuinely excited about doing the detailed, grinding work of getting clinical UIs right. This is a full-stack role — you will own both the frontend reporting surface and the backend services that power it.

What You'll Own

Clinical Reporting UI

  • Own the end-to-end reporting experience — the interface cardiologists and radiologists use to review cases, finalize results, and sign off on reports
  • Build a web-based results summary displaying case status, key measurements, exceptions, and data provenance across Cleerly and integrated third-party applications
  • Design and implement clear, high-usability clinical interfaces that handle complex multi-source data with strong information hierarchy

Workflow Integration

  • Implement secure viewer launch flows — opening the Cleerly viewer, embedded HTML5 components, or external viewers via deep-link or SDK integration
  • Partner with Backend, Viewer, and CoreLab teams to ensure the full workflow reliably supports case gating, edits, final sign-off, and write-back to PACS/EHR
  • Integrate with third-party reporting engines and dictation tools (e.g., Nuance, M*Modal) as needed

Backend and API Integration

  • Consume and shape REST APIs, manage pagination and filtering, and ensure audit-safe data handling across the reporting surface
  • Work with FHIR/HL7 standards for structured reporting outputs and EHR write-back
  • Contribute to backend services as needed to support the reporting platform

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with demonstrable frontend depth
  • Strong React and TypeScript — this is your primary toolkit and you are genuinely comfortable owning a complex clinical UI in it
  • Experience building clinician-facing interfaces — radiology, cardiology, clinical workflow, or similar regulated environments
  • Solid backend/API integration skills — you can consume and shape APIs, handle edge cases, and reason about data integrity
  • Working knowledge of at least one healthcare interoperability standard (FHIR or HL7 v2)
  • Strong testing discipline — rigorous handling of edge cases, error states, partial results, and latency in clinical UIs
  • Ability to operate in a regulated environment — requirements traceability, change impact analysis, validation support
  • Direct experience collaborating with clinical stakeholders to define and refine workflows

Nice to Have:

  • Experience embedding or launching medical viewers (OHIF/Cornerstone, HTML5 viewers, iframes) using secure messaging protocols
  • Java and Spring framework experience
  • Prior integration with commercial reporting or dictation tools (Nuance, M*Modal)
  • DICOM protocol knowledge (C-STORE, C-FIND, DICOMweb)

Why This Role

This is not a role for someone who wants to delegate the frontend work. Our team needs someone who is excited to get into the details — pixel-level UI decisions, clinical edge cases, the nuance of how a cardiologist actually reads a report — and who takes pride in getting that layer right. If you've built clinical workflow UIs before and want real ownership of a product used directly in patient care, this is the role.

Why you should apply:
