What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Electrical Qualifier, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Electrical Qualifier, you need in-depth knowledge of electrical systems, relevant industry standards, and typically a recognized electrical engineering degree or certification. Familiarity with remote inspection tools, compliance software, and common documentation systems is crucial. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication help ensure accurate assessments and clear reporting. These skills are essential to maintain safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient operations in remote electrical projects.

How does a Remote Electrical Qualifier typically collaborate with on-site teams to ensure project quality and compliance?

As a Remote Electrical Qualifier, you will regularly coordinate with on-site engineers, project managers, and safety personnel using digital tools such as video conferencing, shared project management platforms, and real-time documentation. Clear communication and attention to detail are crucial, as you'll review electrical plans, verify compliance with relevant codes, and provide feedback or approvals remotely. Building strong virtual relationships with team members helps ensure smooth workflows and timely resolution of any issues that arise. This remote structure requires a proactive approach to staying informed about project developments and maintaining high-quality standards across all stages.

What are Remote Electrical Qualifiers?

Remote Electrical Qualifiers are professionals responsible for assessing, verifying, and ensuring the compliance of electrical installations or systems from a remote location. They use digital tools and communication technologies to inspect, review documentation, and sometimes guide on-site personnel through safety and quality checks. Their work helps maintain electrical safety standards, especially for projects where on-site inspection is not feasible. Remote Electrical Qualifiers often collaborate with engineers, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure all electrical work meets industry regulations.

What is the difference between Remote Electrical Qualifier vs Remote Electrical Inspector?

Work EnvironmentPre-qualification assessments, remote review of electrical plansInspection of electrical installations, site visits (may be remote in some cases)
Employer & Industry UsageConstruction, electrical contracting, project managementBuilding departments, construction oversight, safety compliance

The Remote Electrical Qualifier primarily reviews electrical credentials and plans remotely, ensuring compliance before work begins. In contrast, the Remote Electrical Inspector evaluates completed electrical work, often through site inspections or remote assessments. Both roles require electrical licensing but differ in their focus on pre-qualification versus inspection, serving different stages of electrical project oversight.

WHO WE ARE
Since 1954, Cupertino Electric, Inc. (CEI) has been powered by people who’ve built a reputation for delivering high-profile, complex projects. Real, tangible things that alter the landscape and improve lives. And we've done it with integrity for more than 70 years. We’re problem solvers and innovation seekers. We’re team players and safety fanatics. And we're proud to be part of Quanta Services (PWR:NYSE), North America's largest employer of skilled craft labor. Because what we do is important, but how we do it is everything.

THE ENGINEERING TEAM
With an in-house team of electrical and civil engineers, drafters and CAD operators, our resources rival those of standalone engineering firms. We are a true provider of turnkey electrical solutions—from design to delivery. As a part of this department, you can expect to work closely with our project management and field installation teams to streamline the construction process.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a professional Electrical Engineer who is fully competent in the subject matter or the functional areas of assignments. The ideal candidate will plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, and adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria; and devise new approaches to problems. This person will independently perform assignments with instructions as to the general results expected and will receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems with supervisory approval for projects. This role will coordinate with Cupertino Electric’s inter-department staff and managers, and serve as a resource for team members including Engineers, Designers, Estimators, and Project Managers.

ABOUT YOU
You bring three to five years of experience working for an electrical design firm or design build. You are able to work independently, but are comfortable working with a team and different functions across the organization. Your technical skillset includes experience with Microsoft Office Suite applications, and AutoCAD – MEP/REVIT – Etap/SKM.

WHAT YOU WILL GAIN
As an Electrical Engineer at Cupertino Electric, you will be given the opportunity to perform and review design tasks assigned to you— following QAQC processes through the entire design phase. As a subject matter expert, there will be opportunities to supervise and mentor other Engineers, Designers, or CAD/BIM drafters on assigned work. You will contribute to the design coordination with the Project Manager to ensure design documents are aligned and meet the project’s scope requirements. In addition to supporting your team, you will also build productive, internal working relationships across the organization. Lastly, you have the important responsibility of ensuring that the plans and work are completed in compliance with state and NEC codes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Electrical Engineering or similar Bachelor of Science degree required.

Licensure/Certifications: Professional Engineer's License – State of California required.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience required working for an electrical design firm or design build electrical contractor.
