What You Will Be Responsible for While in This Position:

The successful candidate will be responsible to perform layout, installation, repair and maintenance of various electrical and telecommunications systems to provide power for machines, equipment, lighting and facilities in accordance with codes, regulations and safety and performs related work with other Electricians as required.

This position also requires the ability to fully layout, install, maintain, and repair a wide variety of industrial electrical and telecommunication systems. Responsible for providing maintenance and support for the uninterrupted operation of essential electrical equipment.

PURPOSE AND PRIMARY FUNCTION(S): The low Voltage Electrician is responsible for performing layout, installation, repair and maintenance of various electrical and telecommunications systems to provide power for machines, equipment, lighting and facilities in accordance with codes, regulations and safety and performs related work with other Electricians as required. This is an industrial electrician position.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  1. The employee will be required to be fully competent to layout, install, maintain, and repair a wide variety of industrial electrical and telecommunication systems. Abilities are to include the setup of work tasks and a in depth knowledge of electrical theory.
  2. Responsible for providing maintenance and support for the uninterrupted operation of essential electrical equipment.
  3. Must be available for emergencies or job assignments on a 24-hour basis.
  4. Follows Policies, Procedures, Rules and Regulations as outlined in the Longo Electrical Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.

EDUCATION: High School Diploma, Vocational School Diploma or equivalency certificate, plus a minimum of two years of formal training in the Electrical Field including NEC code review classes.

EXPERIENCE: At least 5 Years experience in the Electrical Trade.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Ability to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. Must have a valid Local driverโ€™s license. Work will include the complete installation and maintenance of industrial electrical systems and equipment used in the Industrial, Commercial, Surface Mining, Water and Wastewater Treatment plants and various ancillary systems. The work covers the entire electrical trade, and the employee is expected to often work independently due to the diverse nature of the work. Ability to understand, remember and carry out oral and written instructions. Willing to attend school on job related issues during working and off hours.

TYPICAL TASKS:

  1. Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, overhauls, and tests a wide variety of electrical, telecommunications, network systems, and controls. Assists Management in the development of material lists and work tactics.
  2. Performs troubleshooting of motor control center equipment, control systems, lighting systems, telecommunication and electrical associated equipment.
  3. The employee will be well versed in the installation of all types of above and below ground conduit and wire tray systems.
  4. The employee will be required to make periodic preventative maintenance inspections of all electrical equipment, looking for potential trouble; cleans, lubricates, replaces and adjusts as conditions indicate. Provide assessment recommendations to management.
  5. Work with other Electricians to provide guidance, install, and commission electrical systems. Oversee and assist installation and repair as required; the work may extend or connect to high voltage electrical and instrumentation circuits.
  6. Reads and interprets wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and specifications in making installations or performing major repair work.
  7. Must have experience in the use of electrical field hand tools and general test equipment.
  8. Must have a compete working knowledge of electrical test equipment including but not limited to Digital Voltmeter, Meggers, Current Testing, etc.
  9. Must be completely familiar with and working knowledge of OSHA, NEC NFPA 70 and NFPA70E. Ability to perform Lockout/Tagout Procedures.
  10. Has experience with Motor and generator terminations.
  11. Is familiar and experience with racking in low voltage breakers.
  12. The work is mainly at industrial customer facilities and local travel is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Workers are employed in conditions normally associated with Industrial electrical trade. Employees will be required to work indoors, outdoors, and at various heights.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL FACTORS: Must be in good general health and be free from disabling physical and mental defects which would impair the proper performance of the required duties, or which might endanger the health and safety of oneself or others. Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into Confined Spaces while wearing proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as but not limited to canister and dust masks as well as SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus). Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing (including ladders), lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling heavy objects.
