About the AAVSB

The American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) is a not-for-profit association comprised of 62 Member Boards dedicated to the proper and efficient regulation of veterinary medicine in the interest of public protection. We are committed to supporting and advancing the regulatory process for veterinary medicine and being the source for comprehensive information and services to advance and strengthen veterinary regulation.

About the Role

This administrative position is primarily responsible for customer service, application processing, and eligibility review for the examinations of the AAVSB, including, but not limited to the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE), international educational assessment programs, and state and provincial assessments. This position includes extensive contact with key stakeholders including the Member Boards, veterinary technology/nursing programs, veterinary schools, allied organizations, and exam vendors in providing program services support.

Day-to-day activities include:

  • Receive, review, and process various examination application requests.
  • Maintain supporting documentation, electronically
  • Maintain a high standard of excellence in customer services with key stakeholders.
  • Receive, review, and promptly answer email and telephone communications.
  • Produce routine correspondence and assist with the creation or editing of bulk communications.
  • Perform duties as required based on the needs of the AAVSB and/or as assigned.

WITHIN 1 MONTH, YOU WILL:

  • Establish positive working relationships with AAVSB Staff.
  • Be able to accurately process applications with assistance.
  • Be able to accurately process transcripts with assistance.

WITHIN 3 MONTHS, YOU WILL:

  • Understand AAVSB's role in veterinary medicine and the AAVSB's services.
  • Have a good understanding of the roles of the different departments at the AAVSB.
  • Be able to accurately process and review applications/services without assistance.
  • Participate in development, testing, and implementation of new systems within the department.
  • Be able to respond to common customer service questions from candidates/licensees.

WITHIN 6 MONTHS, YOU WILL:

  • Be able to respond confidently to candidate/licensee questions via phone and email regarding services.
  • Efficiently process and review applications.
  • Efficiently process transcripts without assistance.
  • Be able to prioritize workflow needs without assistance.
  • Participate in active collaboration to improve existing and new systems.
  • Participate in active collaboration with tracking data for continuous improvement.

 WITHIN 12 MONTHS, YOU WILL:

  • Be a valuable asset to the department with accurate and efficient work habits.
  • Be a positive personality that demonstrates teamwork and collaboration.
  • Be able to 'hold down the fort' in the absence of co-workers.
  • Provide impactful insight into licensee and program needs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Required: Associate's degree and three years of relevant office and customer service experience.  

Preferred: Bachelor's degree or a minimum of three years relevant experience in an education setting or nonprofit association.

Occasional travel and weekend work might be necessary to fulfill the position's responsibilities.

  • This is a full-time and non-exempt position. Work is performed under the direction of the Program Manager (Exams).
  • Salary range: $42,000 - $46,000
  • The AAVSB is headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas. This position may be virtual/remote with the understanding that there will be required company-paid travel to Overland Park, Kansas, throughout the year.
