COBOL Developer (834 Enrollment Files) – Remote


Pay: $53.90/hour (W2 only)
Location: 100% Remote – Open to candidates from approved states


About the Role

Seeking an experienced COBOL Developer with hands-on experience working with EDI 834 enrollment files. This role involves developing and implementing new incoming EDI 834 files for commercial group enrollment. You’ll collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to automate, test, and maintain mainframe-based systems supporting enrollment operations.


Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain mainframe COBOL applications.

  • Work with EDI vendors and business groups to set up JCL programs for new commercial group files.

  • Test and implement new incoming EDI 834 enrollment files.

  • Develop automation solutions for new group enrollments.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues to reduce downtime.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to team members.

  • Document technical processes and maintain system integrity.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years of experience in mainframe systems and programming.

  • Strong hands-on experience with COBOL (mainframe environment).

  • Experience working with EDI 834 enrollment files – REQUIRED.

  • Solid understanding of financial and healthcare-related processes.

  • Excellent communication skills — able to work with both technical and business teams.

  • Highly organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
