What is a remote domain registrar?

A Remote Domain Registrar is a company or organization that allows users to register, manage, and renew domain names over the internet, without the need for in-person interaction. These registrars act as intermediaries between customers and the organizations responsible for managing domain name systems, such as ICANN. Remote domain registrars provide online platforms for searching, purchasing, and administrating domains, often offering additional services like domain privacy, DNS management, and website hosting. Working with a remote registrar is convenient and allows individuals and businesses to secure and control their website addresses from anywhere in the world.

What are some common challenges faced by remote domain registrars, and how can they be managed?

Remote Domain Registrars often face challenges such as staying updated with evolving domain regulations, managing a high volume of client requests across different time zones, and ensuring robust cybersecurity to protect client data. Effective time management, leveraging automation tools, and maintaining clear communication channels with clients and registry partners are key strategies for success. Additionally, participating in ongoing training and industry forums helps registrars stay informed and compliant with changing policies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote domain registrar, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Domain Registrar, you need a solid understanding of domain registration processes, internet protocols (like DNS), and customer account management, often supported by experience in IT or web hosting industries. Familiarity with domain management platforms, registrar systems (such as WHMCS or cPanel), and industry regulations (like ICANN policies) is typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail are essential soft skills to effectively assist clients and resolve technical issues. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring smooth domain operations, regulatory compliance, and high-quality customer service in a competitive digital environment.

Job description

About the Team

Do you love scripting, dissecting installers, and building automation at scale? We are looking for a Junior Software Packaging Engineer to Join NinjaOne’s Catalog team. This team builds and maintains the third-party software catalog that powers automated patching across managed endpoints. You will research vendor applications, analyze installers, and build package metadata that powers our RMM’s third-party patching engine. Your work will directly influence the reliability and security of thousands of organizations around the world.

You will join our Software Engineering team, working alongside other Software Product Engineers. Collaborating with our Product Managers, Software Development Engineers, and our Support Engineers. You will work with like-minded individuals to deliver exceptional, production-ready automation content for NinjaOne clients.

Location - We are flexible on remote working from home, if you are located in the USA and reside in one of the following states - CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, *IL, KS, MA, MD, ME, NJ, NC, NY, OR, TN, TX, VA, and WA. We have physical offices in Austin, TX and Tampa, FL, if you prefer a hybrid option.

We hire the best software engineers, but experience in our stack can’t hurt: NinjaOne is built on Java, Kotlin, C++, Golang and Postgres; supporting millions of user endpoints and running as a scalable cloud service in AWS. Knowing large-scale datastore bottlenecks, asynchronous application design and client-server architecture will help you.

What You’ll Be Doing

Third-Party Patch Packaging & Content Development

  • Build high-quality software packages for our patching platform, including installer metadata, detection logic, and automation scripts.
  • Analyze vendor installers (MSI, EXE, custom frameworks) to determine silent install parameters, upgrade behavior, and OS compatibility.
  • Automatically detect new software versions from vendor websites.
  • Develop endpoint-side scripts to download, install, upgrade, and verify third-party applications.

Strategic Research & Standards Development

•         Research vendor release patterns, installer technologies, and best practices for secure and reliable patching.

•         Define and maintain packaging standards that improve consistency, reliability, and security across all supported applications.

•         Continuously enhance our package catalog to reflect evolving IT and security requirements.

Frontline Automation & Rapid Response

  • Build one-off or urgent automation scripts in response to emerging vulnerabilities, vendor changes, or customer needs.
  • Troubleshoot packaging issues, installer failures, and automation edge cases.
  • Partner with Support and Engineering teams to resolve customer-impacting issues quickly and effectively.

Other duties as needed

Required Qualifications

  • 2 to 3 years of professional experience in a software development, scripting, or technical IT role.
  • Familiarity operating at the Windows OS level: registry structure (HKLM/HKCU, including how WOW6432Node redirects 32-bit apps on 64 bit systems), file system layout and permissions, and how services and processes work.
  • Experience with Scripting languages or OOP languages
  • Working knowledge of Git
  • Comfortable using AI coding assistants like Copilot or Claude as part of your normal workflow

Nice to Have

  • Hands on PowerShell experience.
  • Some exposure to macOS packaging or Zsh scripting.
  • Exposure to endpoint management platforms.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with a unit testing framework
  • Exposure to VM based software validation workflows

What We’re Looking For

•         Curiosity and a builder’s mindset. Side projects, self-directed learning, or community contributions are all good signs.

•         Genuine care about getting the details right. A bad detection rule or an unhandled exit code should feel like a real problem to fix, not just a checkbox to close.

•         Comfortable asking questions and taking feedback while you’re still learning a new domain.

The NinjaOne Unified IT Operations Platform delivers endpoint management, autonomous patching, backup, and remote access in a single console to improve efficiency, increase resilience, and reduce spend. By automating IT and managing all endpoints, organizations give employees a great technology experience at work.
