Position Overview

Direct Counsel is seeking a senior sales executive in the title insurance space to drive growth across the DMV region with a Fortune 500 company. This role is first and foremost a sales and business development position: the ideal candidate brings an established book of business, deep relationships with referral sources, and a proven track record of revenue generation. Familiarity with title underwriting and the ability to navigate technical conversations is strongly preferred. The hire may be an attorney or a nonattorney with strong industry experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sales & Business Development

    • Originate and grow revenue by targeting law firms, title agencies, lenders, and real estate professionals throughout the DMV.
    • Leverage existing relationships and networks to bring over a book of business and develop new pipelines.
    • Create and execute a structured territory / account plan focused on market share growth.
    • Conduct inperson and virtual meetings, presentations, and events with key clients and prospects.
    • Track activity, pipeline, and results; report on revenue performance and opportunities.
  • Client & Market Engagement

    • Serve as a primary relationship manager for highvalue accounts.
    • Partner closely with internal underwriting and operations to deliver a smooth client experience.
    • Represent the company at industry events, bar associations, and networking functions to increase market visibility.
    • Provide feedback to leadership on market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs.
  • Underwriting / Technical Interface (Preferred)

    • Understand the basics of title underwriting sufficiently to discuss files at a high level and liaise effectively with underwriting.
    • Help frame issues, coordinate with underwriters, and manage client expectations around risk and coverage (internal team will handle detailed underwriting).
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Background

    • Current or recent senior sales / business development experience in:
      • Title insurance,
      • Or a closely related real estate/financial services segment with strong overlap in relationships.
    • May be an attorney (e.g., real estate / title background) or a nonattorney career sales professional.
    • Demonstrated ability to bring or build a book of business in the title/real estate ecosystem.
  • Experience

    • Strong track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets.
    • Experience selling in the Virginia / DC / Maryland markets is strongly preferred.
    • Prior work with title agencies, underwriters, or real estate law firms is a major plus.
  • Skills & Attributes

    • Strong communication and presentation skills with senior decisionmakers.
    • Entrepreneurial, metricsoriented, and comfortable operating with revenue accountability.
    • Able to collaborate closely with internal underwriting and operations teams.
Work Arrangement
  • Hybrid / field-based role:
    • Significant time in the field across the DMV meeting clients and prospects.
    • Periodic presence in the DC office (e.g., periodically, not daily) for internal alignment.
    • Flexibility for remote work when not in meetings or on the road.
