Job Summary

The Actuarial Operations team designs and implements advanced pricing models and analytical solutions that drive profitability and growth across Arch's Property & Casualty insurance products.

The Director/AVP, Data Architect is a senior technical leader responsible for designing, building, and evolving enterprise data platforms that place analytics at the core of decisionmaking. This role combines data architecture ownership with handson data engineering, partnering closely with actuarial, analytics, and business leaders to deliver scalable, highquality solutions.

As a key member of the Actuarial Operations team, the Architect sets engineering standards, owns architectural decisions, and enables consistent, highquality data consumption across analytics, reporting, and downstream applications.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Own and evolve enterprise data architecture supporting actuarial, analytical, and research use cases.

Design, build, and optimize complex data pipelines, databases, and data models.

  • Lead development and orchestration of data workflows using Apache Airflow or equivalent frameworks.

  • Enable consistent and trusted reporting by defining standardized datasets, calculations, and business definitions.

  • Partner with analytics teams to ensure data models support dashboards, adhoc analysis, and executive reporting.

  • Lead and mentor engineers, providing handson technical guidance and architectural direction.

  • Manage data engineering efforts across the full project lifecycle, balancing priorities and resources.

  • Automate data ingestion and integrate internal and external data sources using modern technologies.

  • Promote best practices across data modeling, documentation, testing, version control, and deployment.

  • Build strong partnerships with actuarial, analytics, and technology peers across the organization.

  • Operate effectively in ambiguous problem spaces and break complex challenges into actionable solutions.

Required Experience

10+ years of experience in data engineering or data platform development.

Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.

Strong understanding of data warehousing, dimensional modeling, and reportingfriendly data design.

Strong handson experience with Python for data engineering and automation.

Proven ability to deliver scalable, productiongrade data solutions.

Desired Experience

Experience supporting analytics or actuarial functions within insurance or financial services.

Handson experience with modern cloud data platforms such as Snowflake and Databricks.

Familiarity with MLOps and analyticsdriven production systems.

Familiarity designing and operating data pipelines using Apache Airflow or equivalent orchestration tools.

Strong data manipulation skills and resilient problemsolving ability.

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

  • Exceptional collaboration and relationship building skills

  • Comfortable handling ambiguous concepts and breaking down complex problems into manageable pieces

Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and business needs.

Education

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, or equivalent experience.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

$153,000 - $193,000/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
