We are looking for a Head of Category Management (or Senior Manager, Category Management as we call it!) to join our Merchandising Team. This individual will report into our Vice President of Merchandising and will lead a team of Senior Category Managers, Category Managers, and Associates. This individual will provide strategic leadership for the Category Management function, overseeing category strategy, financial performance, vendor partnerships, and team development. They will also set longterm team vision, drive enterpriselevel initiatives, and ensure category strategies align with organizational goals. This remote position is open to individuals who live in, or are open to relocating to, the following states:Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

This position requires travel to our headquarters in Melville, NY 6 times per year for internal meetings and team building activities. Additional travel may be required based on department and company needs. We reimburse reasonable and necessary travel expenses, and you're also welcome to work on-site anytime beyond these visits - our doors are always open.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST

Base Salary:$158,000 - $198,000 per year

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership & Vision
    • Develop and own the longterm category vision, ensuring alignment with company strategy and financial objectives
    • Identify enterpriselevel opportunities for growth, innovation, and competitive advantage
    • Establish category frameworks, processes, and best practices for the organization
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a highperforming category management team
    • Set performance expectations, provide coaching, and support career development
    • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and strategic thinking
  • EnterpriseLevel Category Management
    • Oversee category strategies across multiple product areas, ensuring consistency and strategic alignment
    • Approve major assortment decisions, vendor partnerships, and product launches
    • Drive crosscategory initiatives that improve customer experience and financial performance
  • Vendor & Partner Strategy
    • Lead strategic vendor negotiations, joint business planning, and longterm partnership development
    • Build relationships with key suppliers, industry partners, and executivelevel stakeholders
  • Financial & Market Leadership
    • Own category financial performance, including revenue, margin, and profitability targets
    • Oversee category forecasting, financial modeling, and longrange planning
    • Monitor market trends and competitive dynamics to inform strategic decisions
  • CrossFunctional & Executive Influence
    • Partner with senior leaders across Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain, Finance, and Operations to drive enterprise initiatives
    • Present category strategies, business cases, and performance updates to executive leadership
    • Influence organizational priorities through datadriven insights and strategic recommendations

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Merchandising, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
  • 8+ years of experience in merchandising, category management, and product development
  • 3+ years of experience leading remote teams of Category Managers and demonstrated success driving strategic, financial, and operational outcomes
  • Advanced statistical analysis and data manipulation skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed recommendations, including experience in Microsoft Excel and retail systems
  • Strong executive presence, including interpersonal communication, project management, and collaboration
  • Exceptional critical, strategic, and creative thinking skills while working in an everchanging environment
  • Proven time management skills and ability to remain flexible in a high growth environment while leading strategy, influencing stakeholders, and driving financial results
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team setting
