Remote Devops Relocation and Remote Cloud Engineer roles share overlapping skills like cloud platform knowledge and automation. Both are in high demand across tech industries, but their core responsibilities differ slightly.

Is remote DevOps still in demand in 2026?

Remote DevOps roles remain in high demand in 2026 due to ongoing digital transformation and the need for continuous integration and deployment. Skills in cloud platforms, automation tools, and scripting are highly valued, and many companies continue to prioritize remote work arrangements for DevOps professionals.

How does working remotely as a DevOps engineer impact collaboration with onsite teams during a relocation process?

Remote DevOps engineers often collaborate closely with onsite development, operations, and QA teams using tools like Slack, Jira, and Zoom. During a relocation, effective communication and time management become even more critical, as you may need to navigate different time zones and adapt to new team dynamics. Companies typically provide robust onboarding and support structures to ease this transition, ensuring you have the resources and touchpoints needed for seamless collaboration. Proactively reaching out and participating in regular stand-ups or sync meetings helps maintain alignment and build relationships, regardless of your physical location.

Can a remote DevOps engineer work remotely?

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote DevOps engineer?

To thrive as a Remote DevOps Engineer, you need a solid background in software development, system administration, automation, and cloud infrastructure, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Proficiency with tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, AWS/Azure, and relevant certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer are highly valued. Strong communication, problem-solving, and self-motivation are essential soft skills for collaborating across distributed teams and managing tasks independently. These skills are crucial for ensuring reliable deployments, fast incident responses, and seamless operations in a remote work environment.

What is a remote DevOps relocation?

A Remote DevOps Relocation job is a position where DevOps professionals are hired to work for an organization remotely, but with the option or requirement to relocate either temporarily or permanently to a different city or country. These roles combine remote work flexibility with the opportunity for geographic movement, often to align with company offices or client needs. DevOps specialists in these positions focus on automating software development, deployment, and IT operations while adapting to new environments. Employers may offer relocation assistance or support to ease the transition. This type of job appeals to those seeking both remote work and the experience of living in a new location.

The Role
We're seeking a DevOps Engineer to cover Eastern Time Zone hours (7am - 3pm ET) and collaborate closely with the Data Engineering and Software Engineering teams under the supervision of the Director of DevOps, Infrastructure, and Security + the company's Chief Agentic & Technology Officer. This role helps to extend and maintain a highly automated, infrastructure-as-code DevOps practice supporting an analytics platform operating in a SOC 2 environment. The DevOps Engineer keeps the AWS and Kubernetes footprint healthy while shipping changes safely through Terraform, Helm, and GitLab pipelines, with a growing emphasis on AI/agentic automation via AWS Bedrock. Success means moving fast without compromising production stability or compliance posture.
What You'll Do
  • Build and maintain automated infrastructure workflows in Terraform (IAM, EKS, EMR, Lambda, S3, KMS, RDS, security groups) including modules, remote state, and drift management.
  • Own and improve GitLab CI/CD pipelines: automated testing, security scanning, and safe/staged promotion with rollback.
  • Manage Kubernetes on EKS via Helm, including GitLab runners with KEDA.
  • Support AI/agentic workloads, Bedrock AgentCore runtimes, gateways, memory, and identity; MCP servers; agent deployment and observability.
  • Provision and manage AWS Bedrock access (least-privilege IAM, model enablement, cost/usage monitoring).
  • Handle access management and change requests within SOC 2 controls - least privilege, auditability, no console drift.
  • Operate Elasticsearch/OpenSearch and SFTP data pipelines; contribute to cost optimization and AI-assisted DevOps automation (agent skills, runbooks, self-service tooling).

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in lieu of Degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps and IAC (Infrastructure-as-Code)
  • Deep experience with AWS core services (IAM, VPC/networking, EC2, S3, EKS or ECS).
  • Strong operating knowledge of Terraform (modules, remote state, reading plans, etc.), Kubernetes + Helm, and GitLab CI or equivalent.
  • A change-safety mindset and comfort operating under compliance controls for SOC 2.
  • At least some exposure to LLM/AI tooling; agent workflows or MCP frameworks required, Bedrock is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience building agentic systems is preferred, but not required.

What We Offer
  • The opportunity to make a real impact on a growing company.
  • Collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Competitive compensation package.
    • Salary + Bonus
    • Benefits: generously subsidized health insurance, employer-paid ancillary benefits, flex/unlimited PTO, fully remote, 401k with company match
  • Be a part of a team that is passionate about what we do!

The pay range for this role is:
145,000 - 160,000 USD per year (Remote (United States))
