What is remote development?

Remote development refers to the practice of software development where developers work from locations outside of a traditional office environment, often from home or co-working spaces. This setup is enabled by various collaboration tools, cloud services, and version control systems that allow teams to communicate and manage code remotely. Remote development offers flexibility, can improve work-life balance, and allows companies to tap into a global talent pool. However, it also requires strong communication skills and self-discipline to ensure productivity and team cohesion.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote developer?

To thrive as a Remote Developer, you need strong programming skills, problem-solving abilities, and experience with relevant coding languages, often supported by a computer science degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, collaborative platforms such as GitHub or Jira, and remote communication tools like Slack or Zoom is essential. Excellent self-motivation, time management, and clear written communication help remote developers stand out. These skills ensure productivity, effective teamwork, and reliable project delivery in a distributed work environment.

How do remote development teams typically collaborate and stay aligned on projects?

Remote development teams usually rely on a combination of project management tools, version control systems, and regular virtual meetings to stay connected and aligned. Communication platforms like Slack or Microsoft Teams, along with daily stand-ups and sprint planning sessions, help ensure everyone is updated on progress and blockers. Code repositories such as GitHub or GitLab facilitate collaborative coding, while documentation tools keep information accessible. Effective remote collaboration often requires strong communication skills and self-discipline to manage tasks independently while staying engaged with the team.

Sales Development Representative | Saas | Construction - REMOTE

Strategic Employment

Boston, MA • Remote

Full-time

Re-posted 4 days ago

Job description

San Francisco based, fast-growing SaaS company building change order management software for the construction industry is hiring a fully remote Sales Development Representative. This is a rare opportunity for a Project Engineer, Project Manager, or Project Coordinator to transition into sales without starting from zero — you already speak the language of change orders and cost events, and here that knowledge becomes your biggest advantage: selling a product built to solve problems you've personally lived.

You'll join a supportive, high-energy sales team where you'll learn prospecting, outreach, and discovery from the ground up, with a clear path toward closing roles as you develop. If you've been curious about sales but didn't want to give up everything you know about construction, this role was built for you.

What You'll Do

  • Identify and reach out to general contractors and specialty contractors who struggle with manual change order processes
  • Run discovery conversations, leveraging your firsthand construction operations experience to build instant credibility
  • Book qualified meetings for Account Executives and learn the full sales cycle along the way
  • Become a product expert and trusted resource on change order workflows

Required Skills & Experience

  • 1+ years at a commercial general contractor or specialty contractor as a Project Engineer, Project Manager, Project Coordinator, or similar role
  • Basic understanding of and exposure to change order management processes
  • Genuine desire and curiosity to join a sales team and begin a career in sales
  • Ability to work remotely within the Boston and Greater Boston area

Nice to Have

  • Strong working knowledge of construction software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or change order management platforms
  • Construction management degree or a construction-related degree/focus in college
  • Previous sales experience or professional exposure to SaaS products
