Role Description:

As a Senior Manager, Cross Border Transportation at ShipBob, you will be responsible for managing carrier relationships and partnerships across all cross-border modes for both inbound and outbound freight. This role is also responsible for managing other critical partnerships including customs brokers, 3rd party duty and tax estimation systems. You will be responsible for ensuring packages are flowing through ShipBob systems and facilities in the most efficient way possible and making sure that the customers get their shipments on time. You will be a subject matter expert who both manages and educates internal partners on cross border entry processes and programs (USMCA, IOSS) as well as destination country requirements and best practices to ensure adherence to environmental systems. Shipping is directly related to ShipBob's overall customer experience, and you will be able to impact it positively in a meaningful way. This role reports to the Director, Transportation.

What you'll do:

  • Establish and manage carrier performance tracking and carrier performance improvement initiatives, which includes coordinating carrier quarterly reviews to hold carriers accountable.
  • Manage Carrier Analyst that will be responsible for executing the day (i.e., solutioning missed pick-ups / drop-offs, securing additional capacity, etc).
  • Identify coverage or service gaps in defined carrier portfolio / network and work to evaluate prospective carriers.
  • Responsible for onboarding new carriers and new lanes including:
    • Developing SOPs.
    • Ensuring integration requirements are understood and completed.
    • Negotiating rates and ensuring smooth service launch.
  • Identify bottlenecks in carrier package flows and partner with carriers to improve service levels.
  • Create processes and educate internal teams to ensure continuous flow of packages through the carriers' supply chain.
  • Is the subject matter expert for cross border compliance and regulations with a willingness to collaborate with / educate internal stakeholders on best practices.
  • Identify trends in service disruptions and work with carriers to mitigate (i.e. reduce lost and damage rates).
  • Own pick-up / drop-off master schedules with carriers.
  • Support ShipBob freight specialists as needed.
  • Identify additional reporting tools and requirements needed to effectively manage a carrier portfolio.
  • Create transportation and warehouse SOPs as needed.
  • ​​​Identify gaps in shipment creation and tendering process working with internal and external technical teams to ensure systems can execute and scale to support cross border trade.
  • Support Cross border sales leadership to ensure our capabilities are meeting our merchant customers needs.
  • Partner with the Shipbob Fulfillment Network (SFN) Partner Development team to identify locations and requirements for facilities needed to expand cross border trade.
  • Support ad hoc carrier and partner requests.
  • Be a player-coach, reporting directly to the Director, Transportation, and guiding stakeholders to support the business.
  • Maintain and improve standard operating procedures with carrier utilization, cost control, and general Cross Border operations.
  • Be familiar with insurance and claims collection processes for damaged cargo, loss, etc.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as necessary.

What you'll bring to the table:

  • ​​​Broad knowledge of industry capabilities and processes including but not limited to:
  • Ocean and Air consolidation.
  • Small parcel cross border requirements.
  • LTL and Truckload requirements.
  • Intra Europe trade (e.g. EU to GB, NO, CH) border requirements.
  • Knowledge of various cross border entry requirements is a must.
  • 5-10 years of experience working in ecommerce and shipping industry.
  • 2+ years of experience working with cross border shipments.
  • Superior presentation and communication skills with the ability to take complex, detailed processes and requirements and guide understanding of essential points to business partners.
  • Project Management experience required.
  • Excellent computer and data analysis skills, most importantly in Microsoft Excel, and Powerpoint. Experience working with PowerBI, and SQL is a plus.
  • Flexibility to time shift working hours (from time to time) to support Europe, Asia and Australia operations.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or Project Management/Engineering.
  • Licensed Customs Broker is a plus.
  • Ability to Travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.

ShipBob believes in transparency while providing a competitive total compensation package with a pay for performance approach. We are targeting a salary range of $112,817 - $153,500 for this role. In addition to base salary, this role includes the opportunity to be eligible for participation in the Company's discretionary bonus plan based on Company's plans and in accordance with Company's policies.
