What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a remote creative agency role, and why are they important?

To thrive in a remote creative agency role, you need a strong background in design or marketing, creativity, project management, and relevant education or experience in creative fields. Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, project management platforms like Asana or Trello, and communication tools like Slack or Zoom is essential. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and time management are key soft skills that help you collaborate and deliver results remotely. These skills ensure high-quality creative output, smooth teamwork, and the ability to meet client needs in a distributed work environment.

How does working in a remote creative agency impact collaboration and project management compared to traditional in-office settings?

Working in a remote creative agency often means relying heavily on digital tools for communication and project management. Teams typically use platforms like Slack, Zoom, and project management software (such as Asana or Trello) to coordinate tasks, share feedback, and keep projects on track. While this setup offers flexibility and access to a wider talent pool, it can present challenges such as coordinating across time zones and maintaining clear communication. Successful remote agencies usually have well-established processes for virtual brainstorming, regular check-ins, and transparent documentation to ensure that everyone stays aligned and creative output remains high.

What is a remote creative agency?

A remote creative agency is a company that offers creative services—such as branding, graphic design, advertising, marketing, web development, and content creation—while operating entirely online. Its team members collaborate remotely from different locations, leveraging digital tools to manage projects and communicate with clients. This setup allows for flexibility, access to a global talent pool, and often lower overhead costs compared to traditional agencies with physical offices.

Job description

Overview

We are seeking a Director of Growth Creative to join Local Produce, Instacart's in-house creative agency, and lead the creative vision that powers our growth. This is a senior creative leadership role for someone who lives at the intersection of art and performance-blending compelling storytelling with data-driven strategy to create work that resonates and converts.

You will lead the development of high-converting creative across all paid and owned channels (media ads, email, SMS, web, etc), bridging the gap between brand storytelling and direct response goals. You're someone who sees performance metrics (ROI, CPA, CTR) not as constraints, but as creative challenges-opportunities to push boundaries and discover what truly moves people to action. You'll harness real-time analytics, experimentation, and AI to unlock new levels of creative innovation at scale across digital, video, and offline assets.

As a creative leader, you'll build and inspire a team of talented creatives, establishing a culture of creative curiosity, experimentation, iteration, and continuous learning. You know what great performance creative looks like-and critically, you know how to build the machine that makes it possible at extreme volume and velocity. You'll architect the systems and workflows that transform creative production into a scalable, high-performing engine.

If you love leading creative teams, driving innovation through technology, and shaping how millions of people across the country discover Instacart, this is a rare opportunity to build something category-defining.

About the Job

  • Build and lead a world-class creative team: Grow and mentor a multidisciplinary team across performance design and copy. Set the culture and operational standards for high performance.
  • Own performance creative direction: Set the creative direction across Paid and CRM channels in partnership with marketing. Ensure your team consistently delivers creative that unlocks growth and lowers acquisition costs.
  • Drive AI-led transformation: Integrate AI and automation into every stage of the creative workflow. Increase throughput, reduce manual work, and empower your team to focus on high-leverage creative thinking.
  • Architect the creative engine for scale: Design workflows, pipelines, and systems that enable production of thousands of ads per week in partnership with program management. Implement tooling, automation, and processes that increase velocity, diversification and quality simultaneously.
  • Scale creative globally: Build the systems and teams required to deliver locally relevant creative across international markets while maintaining consistency and efficiency.
  • Partner with Growth leadership: Align creative strategy with media and analytics. Turn insights into scalable creative frameworks, not one-off executions.
  • Champion collaboration and culture: Create an environment where creative teams feel empowered to test boldly, move quickly, and constantly raise the bar.

About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years leading creative teams in performance marketing, growth, or digital advertising, with at least 5 years managing multi-disciplinary teams at scale.
  • Proven experience building and scaling large in-house creative organizations that support high-volume performance advertising.
  • Deep understanding of performance creative dynamics across Meta, TikTok, YouTube, Search, CRM, In-App and emerging channels, including how algorithms evaluate and reward creative.
  • Demonstrated ability to design workflows, systems, and processes that unlock speed, operational efficiency, and creative excellence.
  • Strong track record of integrating AI tools and automation platforms into creative production to increase throughput and reduce manual work, including a demonstrated ability to design workflows, systems, and processes that unlock speed, operational efficiency, and creative excellence.
  • Experience leading global creative operations, including localization strategies, regional workflows, and culturally relevant creative development.
  • Exceptional ability to translate performance insights into clear strategic creative direction that teams can execute against at high velocity.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional partnership skills. Able to inspire teams, manage change, and create alignment across Growth, Product, Brand, and leadership.
  • Comfortable operating in fast-moving, experimental environments where volume, speed, and quality must coexist.
  • Bonus points for experience in music, creator ecosystems, or high-growth consumer apps, though strategic depth and operational excellence matter most.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bonus points for experience in food, grocery, advertising, or high-growth consumer apps, though strategic depth and operational excellence matter most.
