Job description

Join a team of Research, Development, Test, & Evaluation (RDT&E) professionals who are identifying, developing, demonstrating, and assessing technologies and concepts to help protect America's homeland in support of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) Office of Mission and Capability Support (MCS).

Amentum is seeking a Project Engineer with Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) experience to support portfolio system integration and assessment initiatives. The successful candidate will drive project execution in collaboration with DHS S&T leaders, DHS Component staff, contract team members, vendors, and other subject matter experts and supporting organizations.

The position is partial telework who interfaces with the client daily. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of Washington DC/the National Capital Region (NCR). Frequent on-site work in the NCR and eastern West Virginia.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Amentum project engineer for customer-focused C-UAS project activities, directly reporting to project leadership to support the activities as assigned.
  • Support, establish, and/or lead system integration and test efforts to determine select CUAS system, or system of systems, effectiveness and suitability for DHS missions
  • Provide C-UAS engineering expertise to help guide all project execution issues
  • Support and conduct technology surveys to review engineering specifications of CUAS systems against customer requirements
  • Support DHS component capability gap and requirement refinement activities
  • Develop and review technical documents associated with above efforts, such as system design documents, test plans, and assessment reports
  • Review performer/vendor's technical documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Advise program management team on matters affecting project success, schedule, and cost impacts, and develop project recovery plans as required
  • Represent the organization in meetings and conferences as required
  • Support and/or lead integrated product teams (IPTs) in executing tasks
  • May supervise other staff members
  • Blend system engineering skills with field engineering experience to support the customer.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Work location in the continental U.S.
  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to pass DHS entry of duty (EOD) requirements including background investigation for DHS suitability with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust adjudication.
  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline and 3+ years of experience.
  • Knowledge of sUAS threats and C-UAS technologies and operations, analysis, and/or assessments for US government agencies in the past 3+ years.
  • Experience with API development, system development kits, data fusion engine for sensor fusion
  • Ability to integrate one or more C-UAS systems together to detect, identify, track, and mitigate threats with a common operating picture (COP).
  • Familiarity with Team Awareness Kit or Tactical Assault Kit
  • Experience working independently, or as a team member, to solve project/engineering/scientific problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, organizational and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with developing schedules, work breakdown structures, word-processing, spreadsheets and integrated software applications
  • Up to 20% Travel may be required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Secret or Top-Secret clearance
  • 3+ years experience with Counter-UAS systems
  • Computer Science, Mechatronic Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering preferred.
  • Master's degree in a technical discipline
  • Experience with Dedrone City, TAK, Cloud Based Command and Control (CBC2), Athena, or LATTICE system and environments is a plus.
  • Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate

Compensation Details:

$120,000 - $165,000
