Position Overview

VADD Construction Services is seeking an experiencedElectrical Engineer / Owners Representativewith strong experience in thedesign of core and shell (base building) projects, including urban commercial office buildings, laboratory facilities, or educational campuses.

This role represents the owners interests throughout the design and construction lifecycle and requires an engineer who understandsbase building systems rather than tenant fit-outs or interior renovations. The ideal candidate will have spent most of their career working in aconsulting engineering or A/E firm environmentdesigning building systems and coordinating closely with architects and project stakeholders.

Candidates should be comfortable managingmultiple projects simultaneously across conceptual design, design development, and construction phases, while providing engineering insight and guidance to owners, architects, and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

Owner Representation

  • Serve as theowners technical representativeduring design and construction.
  • Provide engineering guidance to owners regardingelectrical infrastructure, building systems, and design decisions.
  • Monitor project scope, schedule, budget, and quality throughout project delivery.

Base Building / Core & Shell Design Oversight

  • Review and coordinate electrical system design forcore and shell buildings, greenfield developments, and laboratory facilities.
  • Ensure building electrical systems are properly designed for long-term flexibility and tenant build-outs.
  • Review engineering drawings and BIM models developed in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD.

Engineering Coordination

  • Coordinate witharchitects, engineers, and consultantsthroughout project development.
  • Interface directly with architects on a daily basis to resolve design issues and coordinate building systems.
  • Manage communication betweenowners, architects, engineers, and contractors.

Design and Construction Support

  • Review and comment on:
    • Submittals
    • RFIs
    • Design reports
    • Change orders
  • Provide written engineering opinions and recommendations to project stakeholders.
  • Conduct site visits and review construction progress.

Project Management Support

  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously across various phases:
    • Conceptual design
    • Design development
    • Construction
  • Provide technical guidance during design reviews and coordination meetings.

Typical Day-to-Day Activities

  • Professional experience working for:

    • Architecture/Engineering (A/E) firms with in-house MEP services

Candidates should demonstrate strong experience in:

  • Coordinating withinternal and external consultants
  • Interfacing withowners
  • Working closely witharchitects on a daily basis

Electrical Engineering Capabilities

Strong candidates should be able to:

  • Size theservice entrance for a buildingbased on mechanical systems and building use.
  • Performelectrical load calculationsfor entire building distribution systems.
