Remote Component Engineer information

What is a remote component engineer?

A Remote Component Engineer is a professional who specializes in designing, selecting, and managing electronic or mechanical components for products or systems, while working remotely. Their responsibilities often include evaluating component quality, ensuring compatibility, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support product development. Remote Component Engineers utilize digital tools and communication platforms to perform their duties from a location outside of the traditional office. This role is common in industries such as electronics, manufacturing, and technology, where global collaboration is essential. The position requires strong technical knowledge, analytical skills, and the ability to work independently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote component engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Component Engineer, you need a solid background in electronics, component selection, and circuit design, often supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Proficiency with CAD tools like Altium Designer or OrCAD, familiarity with ERP systems, and knowledge of industry standards are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective remote communication skills set standout candidates apart. These skills ensure reliable component choices, efficient collaboration with global teams, and successful project outcomes in distributed engineering environments.

How does a remote component engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure component integration and quality?

As a Remote Component Engineer, you will frequently work with design, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to ensure that electronic or mechanical components meet project requirements. Collaboration often involves virtual meetings, sharing detailed specifications, and reviewing test results to address integration issues. You'll use digital collaboration tools to communicate updates, resolve technical challenges, and coordinate on design changes, making strong remote communication skills essential. This collaborative workflow ensures components are delivered on time and meet the necessary standards for performance and reliability.

Job Title: Applications EngineerJob Description

The Applications Engineer supports customers by developing custom fluid-system solutions using high-performance fittings, valves, regulators, filters, tubing components, and related assemblies. This role combines engineering design, technical documentation, customer interaction, and field support, guiding projects from initial requirements through assembly, testing, and delivery across diverse industries such as aerospace, semiconductor, energy, life sciences, and industrial markets.

Responsibilities
  • Review customer requests ranging from simple fittings and welded components to more complex fluid-system assemblies.
  • Develop detailed quote documentation, including pricing, delivery timelines, availability, and basic technical requirements.
  • Create and modify 3D CAD assembly models and technical drawings in SolidWorks for solutions that require formal documentation.
  • Interpret P&IDs to understand system operation, component placement, and component function within fluid systems.
  • Evaluate engineering considerations such as flow, pressure, material compatibility, installation constraints, and overall fit of components and assemblies.
  • Work closely with account managers, sales, production, and assembly teams to move solutions from concept through build, testing, and delivery.
  • Participate in customer calls to clarify requirements for complex systems and ensure alignment on technical expectations.
  • Travel to customer sites in Southern California for technical support, field-service evaluations, ride-alongs, and customer meetings.
  • Assist with field evaluations involving component compatibility, installation practices, leak detection, and troubleshooting system issues.
  • Prepare clear technical findings and written reports for customers following field-service evaluations and site visits.
  • Communicate technical information effectively to both engineers and nontechnical decision-makers, adapting language to the audience.
  • Engage in ongoing learning and specialized training to deepen expertise in fluid systems, products, and field-service best practices.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on experience using 3D CAD software, with SolidWorks strongly preferred and currently used by the engineering team.
  • Ability to create and modify assembly models and technical drawings in SolidWorks with minimal training.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, schematics, and system documentation to support solution development.
  • Understanding of mechanical and fluid systems engineering principles, including flow, pressure, fittings, valves, regulators, and industrial fluid-system design.
  • Ability to interpret basic P&IDs to understand system operation and component relationships.
  • Strong attention to detail when reviewing requirements, preparing quotes, and creating technical documentation.
  • Ability to identify technical concerns, potential roadblocks, and practical solutions in customer systems.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and a willingness to take initiative in resolving technical issues.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Comfort speaking with customers and participating in technical discussions and meetings.
  • Effective cross-functional teamwork skills for collaborating with sales, production, assembly, and leadership teams.
  • Learning agility and willingness to complete extensive product and field-service training.
  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record that allows the individual to be insured by the client.
  • One to three years of engineering experience in a professional environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Engineering education with practical experience applying engineering principles in a work environment.
  • Interest in working across multiple industries, including aerospace, semiconductor, clean energy, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and industrial markets.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise technical reports and findings for customers.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, quotes, and customer interactions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Motivation to pursue specialized training and certifications related to fluid systems and field engineering.
  • Desire to grow into advanced technical or leadership roles within a culture that supports internal promotion and career development.
