What does a remote competition economist do?

A Remote Competition Economist analyzes markets and industries to assess how competition affects pricing, consumer choice, and business behavior, often working from a remote location. They use economic theory, data analysis, and modeling to evaluate mergers, investigate anti-competitive practices, and advise policymakers or legal teams. Their work helps ensure fair competition and compliance with antitrust laws, and they may prepare reports or provide expert testimony. Working remotely, they collaborate with clients and teams using digital tools and communication platforms.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote competition economist?

To thrive as a Remote Competition Economist, you need a strong background in economics, quantitative analysis, and competition law, often supported by an advanced degree such as a master's or PhD in economics or a related field. Familiarity with statistical software (like Stata, R, or Python), econometric modeling, and data analysis tools is typically required. Outstanding written and verbal communication, critical thinking, and the ability to work independently are vital soft skills. These competencies are crucial for delivering rigorous, data-driven insights and clear recommendations in complex, high-stakes antitrust and regulatory matters while collaborating remotely.

How do remote competition economists typically collaborate with legal teams and clients during antitrust investigations?

Remote Competition Economists often work closely with legal professionals and clients to analyze market data, assess competitive dynamics, and provide expert insights during antitrust investigations. Collaboration usually involves regular virtual meetings, sharing complex economic models, and preparing clear, data-driven reports that support legal arguments. Effective communication is essential, as these economists must translate technical findings into actionable advice for non-economists. Building strong relationships remotely with legal teams ensures alignment and efficient handling of sensitive, time-critical matters.

Company Overview

Freewyld Foundry is a high-performance revenue management firm serving short-term rental and hospitality operators generating $1M+ in annual revenue.

We manage $180M+ in revenue across 3,800+ listings, helping operators grow through data-driven pricing, disciplined execution, and strategic consulting. We are operators ourselves and build systems based on real portfolios and real results.

Position Summary

This role owns revenue performance.

As a Revenue Manager at Freewyld Foundry, you will be responsible for pricing strategy, execution, and revenue outcomes across 10+ high-value client portfolios in the short-term rental and hospitality space.

You are accountable for RevPAR growth, pricing accuracy, and strategic decision-making. This is a client-facing, high-trust role where performance, not activity, defines success.
An A-player Revenue Manager at Freewyld Foundry:

  • Treats revenue management as a craft

  • Thinks in numbers, tradeoffs, and decision rules

  • Owns outcomes, not tasks

  • Communicates clearly and confidently with clients

  • Is obsessed with RevPAR, ADR, occupancy, and conversion

This is not a role for someone looking for a low-accountability remote job. It’s for someone who wants to be exceptional at revenue management.

What You’ll Do

Revenue Strategy & Execution

  • Build and execute daily dynamic pricing strategies

  • Adjust rates based on demand, seasonality, pace, and competition

  • Drive 10–20% RevPAR growth across portfolios

  • Maintain high accuracy in pricing execution

  • Monitor ADR, occupancy, and booking trends daily

Client Strategy & Leadership

  • Lead weekly revenue strategy calls

  • Deliver clear, data-backed recommendations

  • Identify and resolve revenue bottlenecks proactively

  • Maintain ongoing client communication via Slack

Market Intelligence

  • Track demand shifts and booking patterns

  • Monitor competitor pricing and OTA algorithm changes

  • Test new strategies and document learnings

Onboarding & Growth Support

  • Analyze new client portfolios pre-onboarding

  • Oversee pricing system setup

  • Support sales and leadership with revenue insights

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of experience in revenue management, pricing, or hospitality analytics

  • Hands-on experience with dynamic pricing tools (PriceLabs, Wheelhouse, or similar)

  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple portfolios at a high standard

Preferred (Nice-to-Have but not a requirement)

  • Short-term rental or boutique hotel experience

  • Familiarity with OTA platforms (Airbnb, VRBO, Booking.com)

  • Experience with Google Sheets, ClickUp, and Slack

  • Background in economics, data analytics, business, or hospitality

Compensation, Benefits & More

Compensation: $70,000 - 135,000 annually with opportunity for bonus based on performance

Job Type: Full-time

Location: Remote, USA with Headquarters in Encinitas, CA

Benefits:

  • Health Stipend

  • Wellness programs

  • Gym memberships or discounts
