Job description

Job Title: Remote Mechanical Engineer Location: Richland, WA Contract Duration: Contract with potential for contract-to-hire Compensation: $65 - $75.00/hr Work Model: Onsite or Remote with Travel Overview: System One is actively seeking a Senior Project Engineer to support complex industrial capital projects in an onsite manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineering professional who is experienced across the full project lifecycle—from concept and pre-FEED through commissioning and startup. This position will play a key role in managing multi-discipline engineering efforts, supporting EPCm-style projects, and ensuring successful project execution across safety, quality, cost, and schedule. Responsibilities: • Support industrial capital projects ranging from $1M to $400M in scope • Lead and coordinate multi-discipline teams across feasibility, FEED, detailed design, procurement, and construction phases • Provide technical oversight on mechanical systems including HVAC, hydronics, process piping, plumbing, and exhaust systems • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards including ASME, ASME B31.3, and ASHRAE • Identify gaps in engineering deliverables and support front-end loading and stage-gate processes • Collaborate with project controls and cross-functional teams to support cost, schedule, and execution alignment • Act as a key liaison between client, subcontractors, and internal teams • Support scope development, change management, and contract execution • Assist in developing project budgets, schedules, and execution plans • Monitor project performance and address risks related to cost overruns or delays • Lead project status meetings and provide reporting to leadership • Promote quality assurance and continuous improvement throughout project execution • Support business development efforts and help secure additional work Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field • 8+ years of experience in project engineering within industrial or manufacturing environments • Experience supporting full project lifecycle (pre-FEED through commissioning/startup) • Strong understanding of the manufacturing of projects and construction of manufacturing facilities (piping, mechanical equipment, etc.). • Strong background in MEP systems and vertical construction • Proven ability to manage projects and interface directly with clients • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) • Ability to work onsite in an industrial manufacturing setting
