Career Overview

Direct Counsel is working with a growing California plaintiff firm that is seeking an experienced Contract Attorney to support their wage and hour class action practice. This is a remote, part-time opportunity ideal for an attorney who thrives in complex litigation and enjoys meaningful, plaintiff-side advocacy.

The Contract Attorney will assist with prosecuting wage and hour class and representative actions, including matters involving unpaid wages, meal and rest period violations, misclassification, and related California Labor Code and PAGA claims. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with a dynamic litigation team.

 Job Responsibilities:
  • Draft and respond to written discovery, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission
  • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on wage and hour issues
  • Assist with drafting complaints, motions (including class certification and dispositive motions), and oppositions
  • Review and analyze payroll, timekeeping, and employment records
  • Support deposition preparation and strategy
  • Assist with settlement strategy and mediation preparation as needed
 Applicant Requirements
  • 2+ years of experience in wage and hour class actions
  • Licensed and in good standing with the California Bar
  • Strong understanding of California Labor Code, IWC Wage Orders, and PAGA
  • Excellent legal writing and research skills
  • Law school journal experience preferred
  • Ability to manage deadlines and work independently in a remote environment
