Civil Litigation Attorney - Tenant Rights & Housing LitigationPractice Areas

The attorney will work on matters involving:

  • Habitability Defects and Housing Code Violations

  • Wrongful Evictions

  • Violations of Local Rent Ordinances and Rent Control Laws

  • Retaliatory Acts by Landlords

  • Interference with Quiet Use and Enjoyment

  • Personal Injury Claims Related to Unsafe Property Conditions

  • Harassment, Including Sexual Harassment and Other Forms of Tenant Harassment

  • Housing and Tenant Discrimination

  • Mobile Home and Trailer Park Disputes

  • Low-Income and Subsidized Housing Matters

Key ResponsibilitiesCase Management
  • Independently manage a litigation caseload from inception through settlement, trial, or appeal.

  • Develop case strategies and collaborate with senior attorneys on complex matters.

  • Maintain organized case files and ensure compliance with all deadlines.

Legal Research & Drafting
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research related to landlord-tenant law, housing regulations, personal injury, and civil rights claims.

  • Draft pleadings, complaints, motions, discovery requests and responses, settlement demands, and legal memoranda.

  • Prepare persuasive briefs and court filings.

Discovery & Investigation
  • Manage all phases of written discovery and document review.

  • Analyze housing records, inspection reports, code enforcement documents, medical records, and other evidence.

  • Conduct witness interviews and assist with expert witness coordination.

Court Appearances & Depositions
  • Attend and argue motions, hearings, status conferences, and case management conferences.

  • Take and defend depositions.

  • Represent clients during mediations, arbitrations, and settlement negotiations.

Client Advocacy & Communication
  • Conduct client consultations and maintain consistent communication throughout the litigation process.

  • Provide legal guidance and case updates while delivering exceptional client service.

  • Advocate zealously for tenants and injured individuals.

Trial Preparation
  • Assist with all aspects of trial preparation, including exhibit organization, witness preparation, trial briefs, and courtroom support.

  • Participate in trials as assigned.

Collaboration
  • Work closely with attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, investigators, and experts to ensure successful case outcomes.

QualificationsEducation
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Bar Admission
  • Active California Bar license in good standing.

Experience
  • 3-7 years of civil litigation experience.

  • Prior experience in landlord-tenant litigation, housing law, personal injury, civil rights, employment law, or plaintiff-side litigation strongly preferred.

  • Experience managing discovery and taking or defending depositions.

Skills
  • Excellent legal writing, research, and analytical abilities.

  • Strong oral advocacy and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, legal research platforms, and case management software.

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
