Job description

VP, Chief of Staff to the CEO
Reports To: CEO
Function: Office of the CEO
Location: Boston, Bay Area, or San Antonio
The Opportunity
The Chief of Staff to the CEO is a senior strategic partner and force multiplier for the CEO, responsible for driving the company's most critical priorities from decision through execution.
Operating at the center of the business, this role will own the operating layer of the CEO's office, ensuring priorities are clear, information flows effectively, decisions are well prepared, and commitments are driven to completion.
This is a strategic partnership role focused on priorities, decisions, executive alignment, and execution. It is distinct from the CEO's Senior Executive Assistant, who manages calendar, scheduling, travel, and day-to-day administrative support.
What You'll Do
Strategic Execution & Priority Management
  • Partner with the CEO to define, track, and drive the company's top strategic priorities, ensuring clear ownership, timelines, and accountability across the executive team.
  • Identify gaps, risks, and bottlenecks across the business and work directly with functional leaders to drive resolution.
  • Own the CEO's follow-through system, ensuring key asks and commitments are captured, tracked, and driven to closure.
  • Maintain the CEO's priority dashboard, keeping progress current, surfacing blockers early, and ensuring owners remain accountable.
  • Track capital structure and refinancing milestones in partnership with the CFO, including preparation for key lender, sponsor, and partner conversations.
  • Coordinate with Finance, Legal, and Investor Relations to ensure the CEO is fully prepared for critical touchpoints.
Executive Communications & Information Flow
  • Manage the flow of information to and from the CEO, ensuring the right issues are surfaced at the right time and with the right context.
  • Triage inbound requests, routing issues appropriately and ensuring matters requiring CEO input are clearly framed for decision.
  • Package key decisions with the relevant context, options, recommendation, and implications.
  • Draft and refine internal and external communications on behalf of the CEO, maintaining consistency of voice and messaging.
  • Prepare communications to the controlling stockholder with the appropriate brevity and framing.
Meeting Discipline & Executive Materials
  • Ensure substantive CEO meetings have a clear purpose, owner, and appropriate preparation.
  • Determine where meetings can be shortened, delegated, or handled without CEO involvement.
  • Produce concise preparation materials covering context, objectives, outstanding items, and key decisions or messages.
  • Capture decisions and actions from CEO meetings and ensure appropriate follow-through.
  • Maintain a single source of truth for CEO decks, one-pagers, talking points, and reference materials.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Organizational Alignment
  • Serve as a key liaison between the CEO and functional leaders, ensuring alignment on priorities and decisions.
  • Build trusted relationships across the leadership team to accelerate decision making and execution.
  • Support organizational design and change management efforts as the company scales.
  • Manage the CEO's external commitments end to end, including speaking engagements, panels, customer events, industry councils, and media.
  • Coordinate customer and partner participation for external engagements through the appropriate field organizations.
  • Track approval routing and disclosure requirements across active commercial partnerships, ensuring external references receive appropriate legal, financial, or product approval.
Operating Cadence & Reporting
  • Build and maintain dashboards and reporting mechanisms to track company-wide KPIs and strategic initiative progress for the CEO and executive team.
  • Drive planning processes in partnership with Finance and functional leaders.
  • Continuously improve the operating cadence and governance of the executive team as the company grows.

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree a plus.
  • 12+ years of experience in strategy, consulting, investment banking, or a senior Chief of Staff role, with direct exposure to a public company or sponsor-backed company.
  • Prior Chief of Staff experience supporting a CEO or business unit president, with a demonstrated ability to build effective systems for follow-through and execution.
  • Direct exposure to a debt refinancing, credit process, or other capital markets execution effort.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, cross-functional initiatives and drive them to completion without direct authority.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing board and executive-level materials.
  • Ability to rapidly produce high-quality executive communications, including sensitive communications in the CEO's voice.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear recommendations.
  • A high degree of discretion and judgment when handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to operate effectively amid ambiguity and shifting priorities in a fast-scaling environment.
  • Working understanding of Reg FD and public company disclosure constraints.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a high-growth technology, infrastructure, or SaaS company.
  • Background in management consulting, banking, or corporate strategy.
  • Familiarity with board governance processes and investor relations.
  • Experience operating within a private equity or activist-influenced governance structure.
  • Alumni of high-performance leadership development pipelines, such as the White House Fellows program, or comparable rotational programs that select for judgment, range, and speed, are of particular interest.
