Senior Substation Engineer - Protection & Controls
Location: Remote

About the Role
ExecuPOWER is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer - Protection & Controls (P&C) to support the design and execution of high-impact substation projects. This role is ideal for a technically strong engineer who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and is passionate about delivering high-quality solutions to utility clients.
As a key technical contributor, you will work closely with Project Engineers, designers, and leadership to ensure all deliverables meet client standards, industry requirements, and project timelines-while consistently exceeding expectations.
What You'll Do
Technical Leadership & Design
  • Lead and support the development of protection & control design packages for substation projects
  • Coordinate closely with P&C Designers/Drafters to produce high-quality deliverables
  • Ensure compliance with client standards, industry codes, and best practices

Engineering Deliverables
Develop and review:
  • One-line and three-line diagrams
  • Protection & control schematics (AC/DC, relay logic, alarm, and communications)
  • Wiring diagrams and panel layouts
  • Control house layouts and equipment specifications
  • Bills of Material and construction documentation

Engineering Analysis & Calculations
Perform and review:
  • DC battery and charger sizing
  • AC/DC system analysis
  • Station service transformer sizing
  • Overcurrent protection coordination
  • Voltage drop and cable sizing
  • CT/VT saturation and burden calculations
  • Preferred: Short-circuit and arc flash studies

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to support project execution
  • Coordinate across multiple disciplines and stakeholders (internal and external)
  • Provide technical support during procurement and construction phases

Client Engagement & Quality
  • Build strong client relationships through consistent, high-quality delivery
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews and ensure accuracy of all final deliverables
  • Stay current on evolving industry standards, technologies, and client requirements

Travel
  • Occasional travel to client sites as needed

What You Bring
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • 10+ years of substation protection & controls experience (more senior experience welcomed)
  • Strong understanding of P&C design principles and utility standards
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills

What Sets You Apart
  • Progression toward or attainment of Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience with:
    • Protection & control specifications
    • Relay settings and coordination
    • I/O and points mapping
    • Advanced system studies (short circuit, arc flash)
