Job description

Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to EnFin’s Senior Director of Credit Risk & Analytics, the Director of Business Intelligence & Analytics Engineering is a senior leadership role with enterprise-wide accountability for EnFin’s data intelligence capability. You will define the strategic vision for how data flows from source systems into trusted, governed, and decision-ready intelligence and be accountable for every layer of that stack, from the analytics engineering data foundation through the executive reporting surface. This is not a maintenance role; it is a build role. You will recruit and develop a high-performing team across two verticals, own the data quality and reporting roadmap, drive adoption of a self-serve analytics culture across all business functions, and serve as EnFin’s most senior internal advocate for data credibility and platform maturity. You will partner at the executive level with the CRO, CFO, and Technology leadership and represent the analytics function in capital partner and ABS program discussions.

This position will be based out of one of our offices in Irvine, CA, San Francisco, CA, Santa Clara, CA, Teaneck, NJ with an in-office schedule set at the direct manager’s discretion in accordance with the company policies and procedures. Remote may be considered in exceptional cases.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Analytics Engineering Data Foundation and Governance

  • Define and own the multi-year technical architecture of EnFin’s analytics data platform including the dbt-based semantic layer in Snowflake, the Tableau reporting surface, and the data quality observability stack ensuring every layer is governed, documented, and built to scale with the business.
  • Own all analytics vendor relationships and procurement decisions including Snowflake, Tableau, dbt, and AI productivity tooling evaluating build vs. buy tradeoffs, negotiating contracts, and ensuring that the enterprise analytics stack is cost-efficient, scalable, and consistently governed across all reporting surfaces.
  • Establish EnFin’s enterprise data quality program: define a multi-tier validation framework covering source verification, cross-system reconciliation, business rule validation, and statistical reasonableness checks. Set data quality SLAs by domain, publish a real-time executive observability dashboard, and build the organizational accountability structures that ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Serve as the business-side architect in all data infrastructure decisions. Negotiate and prioritize CDC implementation, SCD strategies, and ETL pipeline design with the technology team, own the analytics-layer data contract that defines what fields are required, at what fidelity, and with what latency to support credit risk and capital markets reporting requirements.

Business Intelligence and Reporting

  • Own the enterprise reporting surface end-to-end. Set the vision and standards for a production-grade, certified Tableau reporting suite, govern the promotion pipeline from development to production, ensure every executive-facing and capital partner-facing dashboard reflects a single, auditable version of the truth with clear data lineage and refresh SLAs.
  • Systematically audit and deprecate unreliable legacy dashboards and reports, replacing them with governed, certified reports connected directly to the clean reporting data layer.
  • Establish clear ownership, documentation, and certification standards for every reporting surface consumed by leadership or external stakeholders.
  • Build and execute a multi-year self-serve analytics roadmap to deploy certified metrics and governed data products through Tableau so business teams across Risk, Operations, Capital Markets, Finance, and Compliance can answer domain questions independently. Establish metric governance councils and data stewardship accountability that prevents metric fragmentation and eliminates conflicting KPIs at the executive level.
  • Function as a senior data strategist and thought partner to functional leaders across Risk, Operations, Servicing, Capital Markets, Finance, and Compliance. Translate complex domain requirements into durable, governed data products, advise on metric design and analytical methodology, and ensure that every reporting product delivered to leadership or external stakeholders is defensible, documented, and traceable to source.

Team Leadership and Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team across two distinct verticals, Analytics Engineering and BI/Reporting, including hiring decisions, performance management, career development, and succession planning; set the technical bar for the team, foster a culture of quality and documentation, and create clear pathways for growth at every level from analyst to senior engineer.
  • Own the business-side architecture relationship with the technology organization. Define the analytics data contract, negotiate prioritization of pipeline and infrastructure work, evaluate and recommend tooling investments, and ensure that the technology roadmap is sequenced to serve business intelligence needs  while maintaining clear boundaries on infrastructure ownership.
  • Own the analytics reporting cadence to the executive team. Present data quality findings, platform roadmap progress, and reporting suite status to the Sr. Director, CRO, and CFO, represent the BI and analytics function in capital partner reviews, ABS program discussions, and executive-level data due diligence, serve as the organization’s authoritative voice on data credibility and analytical methodology.
  • Champion data literacy and a data-first culture across EnFin. Develop executive-level data fluency, create internal data communities of practice, establish feedback loops between business stakeholders and the analytics team, and position the BI and analytics function as a strategic enterprise asset, not a support function, so that data is the default input to every material business truth. decision.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or technical field required; with a minimum of 12+ years of professional experience, including 10+ years in analytics engineering, data strategy, or business intelligence, with at least 3+ years in a Director-level or equivalent leadership role managing multi-vertical teams and owning an enterprise data platform end-to-end.
  • Expert-level SQL proficiency and the ability to write and optimize complex queries and review and mentor others’ SQL work.
  • Demonstrated track record of building and owning a production-grade enterprise data platform from early-stage maturity to a governed, trusted, and self-serve-capable state including direct experience with Snowflake, dbt (Core or Cloud), and Tableau at an enterprise scale.
  • Expert-level Tableau proficiency, including certified data source governance, enterprise-scale Tableau Server or Cloud administration, and the ability to set and enforce BI development standards across a team, familiarity with Power BI or Looker a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating, piloting, and institutionalizing AI-assisted analytics tools (including LLM-based query, code generation, or data exploration tools). Ability to assess ROI and develop adoption of governance frameworks for AI tooling at an enterprise scale.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex, cross-functional business domain requirements including credit risk metrics, capital markets reporting, and compliance data needs into durable, governed technical data models that non-technical stakeholders can trust and independently use.
  • Excellent executive-level communication skills: ability to present complex data quality issues, platform roadmaps, and analytical findings to C-suite audiences with clarity, authority, and appropriate business context. Equally capable of working at the technical level with engineers and at the strategic level with senior leadership.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, manage competing priorities, and deliver results under tight timelines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience serving as a director or Head of Analytics/BI at a fintech, consumer lending, or specialty finance company including direct ownership of the analytics platform during a period of rapid organizational or AUM growth.
  • Proficiency with Python for analytics automation, data pipeline orchestration, and testing; experience with dbt macros, Jinja templating, and CI/CD workflows for analytics engineering.
  • Fintech Domain expertise in consumer lending, solar finance, or specialty fintech including familiarity with loan origination data, underwriting decisioning outputs, servicing workflows, and ABS/capital markets reporting requirements
  • Deep familiarity with Salesforce data architecture, including custom object modeling, reporting snapshot strategies, and approaches for preserving full field history via CDC or batch extraction into Snowflake
