Remote Business Development Startup information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Business Development professional in a startup, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Business Development professional in a startup, you need strong sales acumen, strategic thinking, and a background in business or marketing, often backed by relevant experience or a degree. Familiarity with CRM platforms (like Salesforce or HubSpot), lead generation tools, and virtual communication systems is typically required. Exceptional self-motivation, relationship-building, and communication skills make someone stand out in this remote, fast-paced environment. These skills are crucial for driving growth, forging partnerships, and adapting quickly to the evolving needs of a startup.

How does a Remote Business Development professional at a startup typically collaborate with other teams?

As a Remote Business Development professional in a startup environment, you will frequently collaborate with cross-functional teams such as marketing, product, and customer success. Regular virtual meetings, shared project management tools, and open communication channels are essential to align strategies, share market feedback, and refine outreach efforts. Building strong relationships and staying proactive in communication are key, as remote setups require extra effort to ensure everyone is on the same page and goals are met efficiently.

What is a Remote Business Development role at a startup?

A Remote Business Development role at a startup involves identifying new business opportunities, building relationships with potential clients or partners, and helping to drive growth—all while working from a location outside the company's main office. Professionals in this position focus on sales outreach, market research, and strategic planning to expand the startup’s presence and revenue. Because it's remote, strong communication and self-motivation skills are essential. The dynamic nature of startups means the role can be broad, often requiring adaptability and a willingness to take on varied tasks.

Description

Full Time | Arlington, VA - Hybrid - Remote Available for Highly Qualified Candidates

DeepSig Inc. is a venture-backed, product-centric technology startup building revolutionary wireless processing software solutions using cutting-edge machine learning techniques. Our technology is transforming baseband processing, wireless sensing, spectrum awareness, signal intelligence, and other critical wireless applications for defense, security, and commercial customers.

We are seeking a motivated Business Development Executive to support and grow DeepSig's business development efforts with a primary focus on U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) and related defense customers. This role is ideal for an early to mid-career business development professional with relevant exposure to wireless systems, particularly in mission areas such as electronic warfare, SIGINT, spectrum operations, tactical communications, RF sensing, or related defense communications and intelligence systems.

The successful candidate should also bring familiarity with SOCOM Program Offices, SOF acquisition priorities, and the broader SOCOM stakeholder environment. They will be comfortable engaging with technical teams, learning complex AI/ML and wireless technologies, and helping translate DeepSig's capabilities into mission-relevant solutions for SOCOM and other DoD stakeholders. This position will work closely with senior leadership, engineering, and business development team members to support pipeline development, customer outreach, partner engagement, and pursuit activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support business development activities focused on SOCOM, SOF-related organizations, SOCOM Program Offices, and adjacent DoD customers.
  • Help identify, track, and qualify new business opportunities involving wireless processing, RF sensing, spectrum operations, EW, SIGINT, communications, and related mission applications.
  • Conduct market research on SOCOM priorities, Program Office needs, mission requirements, funding trends, emerging technologies, and competitor activity across the wireless, EW, SIGINT, and defense technology markets.
  • Assist in developing customer and stakeholder maps across SOCOM, SOCOM Program Offices, military service components, defense agencies, and industry partners.
  • Support outreach to government customers, prime contractors, systems integrators, and technology partners involved in SOCOM, EW, SIGINT, communications, and spectrum-related programs.
  • Help prepare briefing materials, capability statements, proposals, white papers, presentations, and customer follow-up materials.
  • Participate in customer meetings, industry events, conferences, and demonstrations to promote DeepSig's AI/ML-enabled wireless processing capabilities.
  • Work with internal engineering, product, operations, and finance teams to align customer needs with DeepSig's technical solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records of opportunities, customer interactions, sales cycle stages, and next steps in the company's CRM system.
  • Support proposal development, capture planning, and pursuit coordination for SOCOM and broader DoD opportunities.
  • Provide regular updates on business development activities, opportunity status, customer feedback, and pipeline progress.
  • Build a strong working understanding of DeepSig's AI/ML software products, wireless processing capabilities, and mission applications.

Qualifications

  • 2-5+ years of experience in business development, sales, capture support, consulting, program support, military operations, government contracting, or a related field.
  • Relevant experience or exposure to wireless systems, including one or more of the following: electronic warfare systems, SIGINT systems, RF sensing, spectrum operations, tactical communications, software-defined radios, signal collection, or defense communications systems.
  • Familiarity with SOCOM Program Offices, SOF acquisition processes, SOCOM mission priorities, and the broader SOCOM stakeholder community.
  • Familiarity with the U.S. defense market, DoD organizations, defense contractors, or government contracting.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, public policy, international affairs, national security, alternatively military experience, prior service, or direct experience supporting military customers or national security missions is strongly preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal, and public speaking skills, including the ability to summarize technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences and present confidently to senior government, military, and industry stakeholders.
  • Ability to understand and communicate the mission relevance of wireless, RF, EW, SIGINT, and AI/ML-enabled technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% for customer meetings, demonstrations, conferences, and industry events.
  • Eligibility for a Top Secret/SCI security clearance is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting or working with SOCOM, SOF, DoD, the Intelligence Community, defense contractors, or federal technology programs.
  • Background in or exposure to electronic warfare, SIGINT, COMINT, ELINT, spectrum management, RF engineering, tactical communications, ISR, or signal collection mission areas.
  • Military background, operational experience, or experience supporting SOF or national security missions.
  • Existing relationships or working familiarity with SOCOM Program Offices, SOF components, or relevant acquisition and requirements organizations.
  • Experience supporting capture, proposal development, CRM management, account planning, or customer outreach.
  • Familiarity with defense acquisition processes, FAR-based contracting, SBIR/STTR programs, OTAs, or other accelerated acquisition pathways.
  • Experience with Linux, software-defined radios, RF test equipment, or technical software environments is a plus, but not required.

Working at DeepSig

We value creativity, knowledge sharing, and employee growth, and we encourage participation in scientific publications, conferences, and open-source software. We offer competitive salaries and benefits, an employee stock option grant program, an environment where we are excited to be transforming and disrupting how signal processing is done with AI/ML, a welcoming and inclusive environment, a flexible schedule, and a great work / life balance.
