Foster Care Case Manager (Field-Based/Remote - Johnson City, TN)

Impact a Life. Build a Legacy.

Smoky Mountain Childrens Home is a faith-based non-profit that has spent over 100 years dedicated to supporting and caring for at-risk youth. We believe our quality of care is only as good as our people. We are looking for a compassionate, organized, and dedicated Foster Care Case Manager to serve as a cornerstone of support for youth in Johnson City, TN, and the surrounding area.

In this role, you arent just managing a caseload; you are an advocate, a navigator, and a steady presence for children working toward a brighter future.

Why Join Us?

  • Total Health: 100% paid medical coverage option and a paid life insurance policy.
  • Work-Life Balance: Set your own schedule based on the needs of your youth.
  • Generous Time Off: Paid vacation (including major holidays), sick leave, personal days, and bereavement.
  • Supportive Tools: $50/month cell phone stipend (or work phone) and mileage reimbursement.
  • Comprehensive Travel Support:Mileage reimbursement at the full IRS business rate (currently $.0725 per mile) to cover gas and vehicle wear.
  • Investment in You: Paid comprehensive training to ensure your success.

Your Impact (Responsibilities)

  • Advocacy: Represent the best interests of youth at court hearings, school meetings, and child/family team meetings.
  • Mentorship: Provide weekly direct casework services, building relationships with the youth on your caseload.
  • Planning: Develop and implement treatment plans and conduct intake studies to ensure every child receives the right level of care.
  • Coordination: Arrange monthly family visits, monitor educational progress and school attendance, and coordinate medical and therapeutic services.
  • Documentation: Maintain precise, up-to-date case records and prepare monthly progress reports for families and referring agencies.

What You Bring

  • Education: A Bachelors degree in Behavioral Sciences (Social Work, Psychology, Sociology) or Education is required.*
  • Team Spirit: Ability to collaborate with a dedicated team of advocates and accept professional supervision.
  • Integrity: Must pass an extensive background check and drug screen.
  • Resilience: Ability to handle the physical requirements of the role (standing, climbing stairs, lifting up to 40 lbs) and the emotional weight of child welfare.
  • Citizenship: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (Sponsorship not available).
  • Residency Requirement: This is a remote-first position; however, due to the nature of child advocacy and the need for frequent in-person visits (court, schools, and homes), candidates must reside within a 45-minute commute of Johnson City, TN.

Salary & Schedule

  • Salary: $31,700 $36,200 per year (commensurate with education level).
  • Flexibility: While some appointments (like court) are fixed, you have the autonomy to manage your daily calendar to best serve your youth.
