Job description

Bestica is hiring for a Psychology Research Subject Matter Expert to provide services at Wright Patterson Air Force Base located in Dayton, OH (REMOTE).

Description of Services:The shall provide subject matter expertise to USAFSAM Department of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM/FE), Aerospace Medicine Studies and Analysis Division (FES), Aeromedical Operational and Clinical Psychology Branch (USAFSAM/FESP) to expand consultation and research capabilities, intended to improve capabilities for assessing, monitoring, training and treating airmen in high risk, high demand career fields throughout their lifecycle relevant to readiness, health and performance. This effort is in response to concerns regarding psychological functioning related to operational health and performance, and will address aero-medically relevant issues, regarding performance enhancement interventions affecting performance and adaption to aircrew, intelligence, remotely piloted aircraft, cyberwarfare, special duty, and senior leadership duty positions within the United States Air Force (USAF). This effort will provide the capability to assist in data collection, analyses, report writing, and general management of research studies and outcome products (military and academic presentations, journal articles and technical reports, as well as educational material), regarding demographic, operational, and behavioral health variables related to adaptation and performance. Services shall include scientific research design, professional updates of scientific literature, database management, data collection and statistical analysis, discussion of the results, and composition of research technical reports and presentation generation. Support requires contractors to interface with USAFSAM/FESP Aeromedical staff, 711th Human Performance Wing (711th HPW) staff, and minimally with supported MAJCOM/HQ staff as needed. This effort includes tasks and activities to be performed by the contractor, to support research on psychological health screening data and operational performance. The shall meet the requirements of this task order with professional support and technically qualified personnel to assist in areas required to meet the stated objectives and to accomplish the work required. Performance shall be according to the requirements contained in this Performance Work Statement (PWS).

Work Location: Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio 45433 (REMOTE)

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • The employee shall have a minimum of a master’s degree specializing in Research Psychology, Industrial Organizational Psychology, or a related Psychology discipline.
  • The employee shall have expert knowledge with at least 5 years of experience of database development, gathering and organizing data supporting analyses for a wide range of analytical procedures, research report writing, and developing actionable recommendations for improving human performance based on research.
  • The employee shall have at least 5 years of experience designing and conducting statistical data analysis using software such as JMP, SPSS, R, etc.
  • The employee shall have at least 5 years of experience with developing products presenting research outcomes (e.g., statistical results and interpretations), to include professional presentations, peer-reviewed publications, and/or technical reports.
  • The employee shall have at least 5 years of experience engaged in administrative management with regard to study design, methodology, and dissemination of results regarding empirically based human performance research studies.
  • The employee shall have a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) in place with their company based on the potential access to confidential, proprietary, and/or sensitive information. The NDA shall be provided to the Government Program Manager by start of performance.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree (or Master’s degree plus 7+ years of relevant experience) specializing in Research Psychology, Industrial Organizational Psychology, or a related Psychology discipline is desired.
  • Experience with human performance and behavioral science research within the Department of War (DoW) is desired.
  • Experience developing and administering comprehensive, validated psychological instruments via mobile and web-based capabilities is desired.
  • Experience as an author of publications in peer-reviewed journals or official USAF/DoW technical reports in behavioural science with regards to human performance and behavioural science research is desired.

Tasks:

  • The employee shall assist in the development and execution of a comprehensive study protocol, including hypothesis, methodologies, collection strategies, and overall statistical analysis of study data in consultation with USAFSAM/FESP professional staff.
  • The employee shall provide customer leadership a relevant scientific literature review and data analyses, as well as participate in related discussions with USAFSAM/FESP staff.
  • The employee shall confer with and advise USAFSAM/FESP professional staff regarding optimal statistical approaches to analyze study data. The employee shall perform statistical analyses of study data using descriptive and inferential statistical procedures.
  • The employee shall minimize any threats to the validity of the statistical products or online data repositories, as well as maintain the data in a secure fashion consistent with IRB protocol and safeguards. The employee shall maintain confidentiality of screening data, contents of technical reports, and presentation of data deemed sensitive and not releasable to the general public. The employee shall complete the appropriate IRB paperwork and training requirements for conducting research.
  • The employee shall prepare reports of scientific/statistical results in support of scientific literature publication, in coordination with USAFSAM/FESP and 711 HPW staff. The number of professional presentations, reports, and papers shall be verified based upon the relevance of research findings, as they become available.
  • The employee can expect to travel, as needed, to provide professional support, customer consultations, and research presentations at line leadership meetings and professional conferences. The employee can work with USAFSAM/FESP personnel regarding personal limitations on travel scheduling. The employee shall maintain communications with project personnel that facilitate teamwork; adhere to strict confidentiality and classification requirements in all forms of communication.
  • The employee shall be responsible for data management and coordinating process with project team members, which shall include acquisition, input, maintenance, electronic format products, and storage of all project data. The employee shall assist staff in the collection of assessment data maintenance and downloading into the project database.
  • The employee shall provide project operations support, to include assistance with USAFSAM/FES research activities and acquisition of data in support of project goals and objectives.
  • The employee shall arrange, facilitate discussions, and participate in research team meetings, (to include leading a weekly meeting) as needed, to ensure effective communication between research team members as related to the achievement of project research goals.
  • If there is an unexpected interruption in research capabilities and/or reduction in workload, the employee shall support research endeavors in support of additional USAFSAM/FESP related investigations, as required.
