Job description

Background Screening Specialist, Truework

Nashville, Tennessee, United States

Truework, recently acquired by Checkr, provides access to crucial employment, income information, and asset information needed for mortgage loans, apartment rentals, background checks, and more. We are disrupting a $5B+ industry, dominated by legacy incumbents and outdated processes, with a better product and intense customer focus. Within Checkr, Truework operates independently, allowing rapid iteration while also being able to leverage the strengths and assets from our core business. Think of it like joining a startup within a startup!

As a QA Specialist, you will safeguard the integrity of Truework verifications by auditing HR Reports and Outreach workflows for accuracy, completeness, compliance, and professionalism. You'll apply rulesets used in Report QA (identity/entity matching, data consistency/completeness, correctness), and assess adherence to Smart Outreach cadences across phone, email, and fax. Your work will help to directly improve verifier satisfaction, reduce rework, and support on-time delivery targets.

What You'll Do:

  • Audit completed verification reports against Report QA rulesets, validating identity and entity matching, field completeness, internal consistency, and reasonableness of data.
  • Execute Outreach QA reviews on a randomized sample of manual-source verifications (email, fax, phone, third-party providers), ensuring required actions are logged, follow-ups meet cadence expectations, and communications meet tone and professionalism standards.
  • Use the Internal Validator findings to confirm required fields are populated (e.g. employment status with corresponding dates), and flag illogical data (e.g. inactive target with missing end date).
  • Document QA outcomes precisely (pass, soft fail, hard fail, warning), citing evidence and rule references to enable rapid fixes and learning feedback loops.
  • Collaborate with Outreach and Transcription team leadership to resolve discrepancies, coach to standard work, and reduce repeat errors over time.
  • Support SLA and KPI attainment by promptly reviewing queued items and escalating risk on time-sensitive verifications.

What You Bring:

  • Experience with or interest in QA, operations auditing, or compliance within background screening, VOE/VOI lending, HR operations, or similar data-sensitive environments.
  • Working knowledge of the Truework verification workflows, including manual outreach methods and transcription best practices; familiarity with Report QA concepts (rulesets and outcomes).
  • Detail orientation with structured note-taking and the ability to cite evidence for each QA finding; strong written communication and professional etiquette.
  • Analytical judgment to distinguish between soft fails and hard fails, escalate appropriately, and recommend course corrections.
  • Exposure to Looker-based sampling and/or dashboards for audit selection and metrics tracking.
  • Understanding of FCRA-adjacent practices and secure data handling expectations.
  • An A-player mindset with a strong bias for action: you raise the bar, move with urgency, stay resilient through ambiguity, and take ownership to deliver meaningful outcomes.
