Job description

As an Instructional Coach for Virtual Campus, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality of our Virtual Campus classes. In this role, you will help hire, train, coach, and evaluate our instructors, while maintaining a small teaching load yourself. This position is ideal for an experienced educator who enjoys a fast-paced and dynamic environment in which talented educators work together to create innovative educational products and experiences for students.
Location: This role is based out of our headquarters in San Diego, but we are also open to remote work. The states eligible to work remotely from for this role are: CA, CO, CT, DC, GA, IL, IN, MD, MA, MN, MO, NJ, NY, NC, OH, OR, PA, TX, VA, WA
The Instructional Coach will:
  • Complete teaching observations of instructors, evaluating their performance and providing coaching and feedback.
  • Monitor classes during assigned shifts, ensuring that instructors are meeting our standards and dealing with any urgent issues that may arise.
  • Interview candidates for instructor roles.
  • Train new instructors and evaluate their readiness to start teaching.
  • Teach Virtual Campus classes, including subbing when needed.
  • Identify instructor performance concerns that require follow-up. For nonsevere issues, determine next steps and follow up with the employee.
  • Support the creation and delivery of professional development opportunities for instructors.
  • Assist the Customer Service team in responding to parent emails relating to instruction.
  • Assist the logistical operations at the Virtual Campus.
  • Help develop activities and instructional approaches that increase engagement and allow students to do the heavy lifting.
  • Complete other tasks and responsibilities, as assigned.

The ideal candidate has:
  • Solid academic background in mathematics
  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics or a STEM field, with advanced degree preferred
  • Highly skilled and experienced in teaching math at the K-12 levels, including experience teaching via video conferencing software
  • Experience teaching AoPS Academy Virtual Campus classes strongly preferred
  • Experience training, coaching, and mentoring teachers preferred
  • Fast adapter to new operational and educational technologies
  • Creative and efficient in solving instructional problems

Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) is on a mission to discover, inspire, and train the great problem solvers of the next generation. Since 2003, we have trained hundreds of thousands of the country's top students, including nearly all the members of the US International Math Olympiad team, through our online school, in-person academies, textbooks, and online learning systems. While our primary focus has been math for most of our history, through the years we have expanded our unique problem solving curriculum into more subjects, such as language arts, science, and computer science.
