Job description

Role: Deputy Chief of Staff
Location: San Francisco, CA (US remote with one week a month in San Francisco)
Salary
150,000.00-180,000.00(USD)
Our client, an AI-native venture capital firm, is seeking a Deputy Chief of Staff to serve as a right-hand operator within the Office of the CEO. This is a high-trust, high-visibility role for someone who thrives on variety, discretion, and direct exposure to the founder's day-to-day operations.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Relationship management - Managing the founder's professional network, keeping key contacts, partners, and investors informed and engaged
  • Communications - Handling PR and external communications on behalf of the founder and the Office of the CEO
  • Legal coordination - Supporting lobbying compliance and liaising with outside counsel (light legal workload, not a legal role)
  • Board & investor materials - Preparing materials for board meetings, investor updates, and regulatory briefings
  • Special projects - Taking on ad hoc strategic initiatives as they arise, from market research to deal support to hiring

Who You Are
  • 3-5 years of experience in investment banking, venture capital, consulting, operations/strategy, or a prior Chief of Staff/executive support role - with meaningful C-suite or senior stakeholder exposure
  • Exceptional communicator - able to translate blunt internal direction into polished, diplomatic messaging for investors and partners; comfortable drafting press statements, investor updates, and contract language
  • AI-fluent - an active daily user of tools like Claude, Copilot, or Gemini, with genuine enthusiasm for working in an AI-native environment
  • Sound judgment and discretion - this role sits close to sensitive legal, financial, and personal matters
  • Bachelor's degree required; degrees from elite or technical institutions preferred but not required
  • JD or legal training a plus (legal work makes up less than 25% of the role)
  • Familiarity with lobbying, regulatory compliance, or government affairs is a plus
  • Startup or venture studio experience preferred

Alternative path: We're also open to candidates who fit a different archetype - an early-stage or less-established founder eager to learn the operator craft by working closely alongside experienced investors and executives in a venture studio setting.
