What is a Remote Aetna EAP counselor?

A Remote Aetna EAP (Employee Assistance Program) counselor is a mental health professional who provides confidential support and counseling to employees and their families via phone or online platforms. They help individuals address issues such as stress, anxiety, workplace concerns, substance abuse, and personal challenges. Working remotely, these counselors offer guidance, crisis intervention, and referrals to additional resources or treatment when needed. Their goal is to promote well-being and productivity among employees while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

How does a Remote Aetna EAP specialist typically collaborate with clients and internal teams while working from home?

As a Remote Aetna EAP (Employee Assistance Program) specialist, you will primarily interact with clients via phone, video calls, and secure messaging platforms. Collaboration with internal teams, such as clinical supervisors and case managers, occurs through virtual meetings and shared documentation systems to ensure clients receive comprehensive support. Staying organized and communicating proactively is essential, as you will often coordinate care plans and referrals. This remote structure offers flexibility but requires strong self-motivation and digital communication skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Aetna EAP counselor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Aetna EAP Counselor, you need a master's degree in counseling, social work, or a related field, along with appropriate state licensure (such as LCSW, LPC, or LMFT). Familiarity with telehealth platforms, case management systems, and secure electronic documentation tools is typically required. Outstanding listening skills, empathy, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to maintain confidentiality are crucial soft skills for building trust and providing effective support remotely. These competencies ensure high-quality mental health assistance, compliance with regulations, and positive client outcomes in a virtual environment.

Director of Partnerships - Consultants & Health Plans (Remote)

Rula Health

Remote

Job description

We believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. We recognize that mental health issues can be complex and multifaceted, and we are dedicated to treating the whole person, not just the symptoms.
We aim to create a world where mental health is no longer stigmatized or marginalized, but rather is embraced as an integral part of one's overall well-being.
We believe that by providing quality care that is both evidence-based and compassionate, we can empower individuals to take charge of their mental health and achieve their full potential. We are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of those struggling with mental health issues and we strive to be a force for positive change in the field of mental healthcare.
Rula is a remote-first company. We currently hire in most U.S. states, with the exception of Hawaii.
About the Role
As the Director of Partnerships - Consultants & Health Plans, you are the engine behind Rula's B2B growth. You'll build high-trust partnerships across top benefit consultants and health plan sales teams to fuel our Middle Market and National Accounts pipeline. Leading discussions end-to-end, you will navigate self-funded and fully insured dynamics to challenge status-quo thinking and position Rula as the premier behavioral health solution.
We're seeking a high-energy, consultative seller with a background in healthcare sales and high-growth digital mental health. You excel at translating complex value propositions, from quick elevator pitches to deep dives on claims economics, backed by strong CRM discipline and a West Coast presence (or deep regional network). Through strategic prospecting and up to 20% travel, you will transform ecosystem relationships into high-value employer opportunities.
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years in healthcare (carrier or consulting firm) with 7+ years in a client-facing sales or account management role. (e.g. Aon, WTW, Mercer, Brown & Brown, Gallagher, Alliant, USI) or medical carrier (e.g. Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, United, Blues)
  • Proven ability to engage and build high-trust partnerships within the consultant and healthplan community. Experience owning or co-owning consultant and healthplan relationships and influencing employer opportunities through those channels.
  • Skilled in multichannel prospecting and lead discovery, with a focus on identifying pain points and creating business urgency.
  • Deep understanding with self-funded vs. fully insured plan structures and how consultants and health plan sales advise employer clients
  • Ability to immediately lead client-facing conversations end-to-end, including discovery, positioning, and follow-up strategy

Preferred Qualifications
While having the preferred qualifications enhances your candidacy, having all of them is not mandatory. We encourage all interested applicants to apply, even those who may not meet every preferred requirement.
  • 1+ years experience in a high-growth start up in the mental health space (e.g. Spring, Lyra, Modern Health, Headway, Alma) who is a direct competitor of Rula
  • Located or has primary relationships on the West Coast; comfortable with traveling up to 20%
  • Ability to deliver tailored pitches and navigate complex objections to secure clear commitments and next steps
  • Strong organizational skills with a "zero-error" approach to CRM hygiene and structured pipeline management

We're serious about your well-being! As part of our team, full-time employees receive:
  • 100% remote work environment: Working hours to support a healthy work-life balance, ensuring you can meet both professional and personal commitments (must be based in United States, currently not hiring in Hawaii)
  • Attractive pay and benefits: Full transparency of pay ranges regardless of where you live in the United States
  • Comprehensive health benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and FSA/HSA
  • 401(k) plan access: Start saving for your future
  • Generous time-off policies: Including 2 company-wide shutdown weeks each year for self-care (for most employees)
  • Paid parental leave: Available for all parents, including birthing, non-birthing, adopting, and fostering
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Supporting your mental and physical health
  • Quarterly department stipend: Fun team-building activities or in-person gatherings
  • Community and employee resource groups: Participate in groups that celebrate employee identity and lived experiences, fostering a sense of community and belonging for all
  • Home office stipend: New hire home office stipend & $50 monthly stipend to help cover internet or cell phone expenses
  • Wellness at Rula program: Year-round wellness initiatives and a $50/month wellness stipend

Our team
We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are fundamental to our mission of making mental healthcare work for everyone. We are dedicated to having a culture of inclusion that will support our employees in feeling safe, seen, heard, and valued.
