Position Overview

Specter Aerospace is seeking a Senior Accountant to support our growing finance and accounting operations as we move toward hypersonic flight testing and scaled production. This role blends core accounting, government contract financials, and operational support.

BasedinPeabody, MA, Specterleveragesadvanced propulsion, manufacturing, and testing capabilities to rapidly develop supersonic and hypersonic systems. We are backed by a mix of government R&D organizations, commercial partners, and private investment, with close collaborations across leading research institutions.


Key Responsibilities

Core Accounting
Maintain general ledger accounts, journal entries, monthly reconciliations, and month-end close
Classify all transactions by contract; ensure accuracy of charge codes and allocations
Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements for leadership and auditors
Manage bank and credit card reconciliations
Track company assets, maintain depreciation schedules, and review equipment/building leases


Government Contracting & Billing
Manage government invoicing, including submissions via WAWF/PIEE
Assist with government contract billing, collections, audits, and compliance documentation
Ensure adherence to FAR, DFARS, CAS (as applicable), and DCAA expectations
Supportproposal costvolumes and customer-required financial documentation


Operational Financial Support
Manage purchasing, purchase orders, and accounts payable on a weekly cadence
Track procurement of materials, equipment, and company orders
Collaborate with HR to implement payroll and benefits entries into financial statements
Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis for internal planning and government programs
Run periodic spend reports for directors and program leadership
Contribute to process improvements and internal controls development


Additional Duties
Coordinate with cross-functional teams including HR, operations, suppliers, and customers
Provide support during financial reviews, audits, and special projects
Perform other administrative or financial tasks as needed in a fast-paced environment


Required Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
    Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
    Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
    35 years of professional accounting experience
    Strong understanding of balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
    Experience with AP/AR, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
    Experience with government contracting or regulated financial environments
    Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
    Strong communication skills and ability to work with executives, vendors, and government personnel
    Ability to travel onsite to Peabody, MA as needed


Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA (active or in progress)
    Experience with QuickBooks Online orGovBooks
    Knowledge of FAR, DFARS, CAS, and other government cost accounting standards
    Experience using PIEE/WAWF and other government financial portals
    Familiarity with BambooHR, Jira, or other ERP/HRIS tools
    Experience briefing executives or program leadership
    Prior experience in aerospace, defense, R&D, or manufacturing environments
