Job description

Meet Slingshot
At Slingshot Aerospace, we're on a mission to make space safer and more secure for everyone. Our work directly impacts global security, disaster response, climate monitoring, and the critical infrastructure that connects our world. We're a team of builders, thinkers, and problem-solvers who believe that the next generation of space operations will be powered by better data and smarter software.
We move fast, we're not afraid to fail, and we believe the best ideas can come from anywhere-whether you're in engineering, sales, product, or operations. If you want to work on something that truly matters, with people who care deeply about the impact we're making and help shape the future of an industry that's just getting started, you're in the right place.
What You'll Be Launching
As Director, Strategic Finance, you will build and lead Slingshot's financial planning and analysis function for the Engineering org, serving as a key strategic partner to the executive team. You'll translate complex financial data into actionable insights, guide critical business decisions, and help scale the financial infrastructure needed to support rapid growth and capital strategy.
This role sits at the intersection of strategy, operations, and finance-driving long-range planning, optimizing resource allocation, and supporting fundraising and investor engagement.
We're building a team of sharp, creative people who love solving hard problems. Bring your expertise, your perspective, and your drive-we'll bring the rocket fuel.
Your Mission (Should You Choose to Accept It)
Strategic Planning & Leadership
  • Lead the Annual Operating Plan (AOP), long-range (3-5 year) planning, and rolling forecast processes for Engineering and Technology.
  • Partner with the CFO, CEO, and executive team to inform company-wide strategy and decision-making.
  • Develop and refine financial narratives for board meetings and investor communications.

Executive & Board Reporting
  • Deliver clear, data-driven insights through executive dashboards, KPIs, and performance reporting.
  • Prepare materials for Board of Directors and investors, including variance analysis and forward-looking projections.

Business Partnership
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leaders across Engineering.
  • Evaluate ROI on new initiatives, pricing strategies, and capital allocation decisions.
  • Drive accountability around budget management and operational efficiency.

Financial Modeling & Capital Strategy
  • Build and maintain complex financial models (including 3-statement models) to support scenario planning, M&A, and fundraising.
  • Support capital-raising efforts, including investor diligence and financial storytelling.

Operational Excellence & Systems
  • Own and optimize FP&A tools and systems (e.g., NetSuite Planning & Budgeting, Adaptive Planning).
  • Establish scalable processes for forecasting, reporting, and data integrity.
  • Lead cross-functional alignment between Finance, Accounting, and Operations.

Performance & Profitability Analysis
  • Define and track KPIs across SaaS and government contracting environments (e.g., ARR, burn, CAC, contract margins).
  • Conduct deep analysis on cost of delivery, gross margin, and contract profitability.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, pricing, and overall financial performance.
Pre-Flight Checklist
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in Finance, FP&A, or Strategic Finance roles.
  • Proven experience in high-growth B2B SaaS, aerospace, or defense environments.
  • Strong expertise in financial modeling and advanced Excel capabilities.
  • Experience leading budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes.
  • Familiarity with SaaS metrics (ARR, CAC, LTV) and/or government contracting principles (FAR, CAS).
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite and FP&A planning tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex financial concepts to executive stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
Bonus Cargo
  • Experience supporting venture capital or private equity fundraising and investor relations.
  • Background in scaling finance functions in startup or growth-stage companies.
  • Experience with M&A analysis or due diligence.
  • Familiarity with space, aerospace, or defense industry dynamics.
  • MBA, CPA, or other advanced financial certifications.

We're building a constellation here, not looking for identical satellites. Every member of the team brings different capabilities to the same mission. If your orbit intersects with ours and you're mission-ready, send it.
