Job description
SLC works on behalf of clients to support utility-scale thermal, solar, wind, battery energy storage, and other power generating and infrastructure projects. We evaluate and optimize technical, commercial, environmental, and financial aspects of the projects for a variety of clients.
This position will require you to perform civil engineering reviews and analyses to understand power projects and distill technical expertise into actionable information that project stakeholders rely on to prudently develop, design, construct, operate, and finance those projects. Working in multi-disciplinary project teams, you will perform tasks such as the following:
- Assist with civil engineering reviews, including storm water drainage, sanitary sewer systems, road design, and earthwork
- Support preparation and review of site layout, grading, and preliminary drainage designs
- Prepare and review technical specifications to define construction requirements
- Work with senior consultants to advise power project developers
- Evaluate new power and infrastructure projects independently to support financing
- Develop technical reports for applicable audiences - including owners, developers, governmental agencies and committees, and financiers
This is a remote/virtual position. Candidate can be based anywhere within the United States.
QualificationsWe do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position.
Essential skills and experience:
- This position requires a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering. A Master's degree in civil/structural engineering or business (e.g., MBA) discipline is a plus.
- 4+ years of experience in design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, drawings, calculations, and models.
- 2+ years of experience in detailed design of site grading and drainage, storm sewer systems, road design, transport plans, track design, and ponds
- Power plant (combined cycle, simple cycle, nuclear, wind, solar) project design experience.
- Experience in writing and providing support documentation for Civil Engineering specifications or calculations.
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to prioritize multiple parallel, fast-paced tasks within schedule and assigned budget
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical evaluation report writing
- Proficiency with civil engineering software programs such as Civil 3D, StormCad, PondPack, and Mircrostation or AutoCad. Must be capable of working in geospatially located tools.
Valued but not required skills and experience:
- Professional Engineering (PE) license
- Data analysis and visualization
- Project finance or business acumen
- Conceptual project design
- Construction project management and/or scheduling software knowledge
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills
- Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work with and guide others
- Project planning, leadership, and organizational skills
In this role, we expect people to be willing or able to lead others who use modern tools:
- You are expected to lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
- Leaders in these roles often direct automation and process-improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked.
- Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required.
- We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.
