Located in Wanatah, Indiana, Kankakee Valley Rural Electric Membership Corporation (REMC) is a member-owned cooperative delivering power to more than 18,000 residential and commercial members across Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Marshall, Pulaski, St. Joseph, and Starke counties.

Job Description

Kankakee Valley REMC has an opening for a Field Engineer. The responsibilities for the position include the following items:

  • Work with the engineering department team to complete the following projects, as directed by the department manager:
    • New Construction (Residential, Agricultural, Commercial, etc.)
    • Service Upgrades (Residential, Agricultural, Commercial, etc.)
    • Service Relocations
    • Construction Work Plan Projects
    • Pole Inspection/Replacement Program
    • Service Retirements
    • Miscellaneous Engineering Projects
      • Engineering Analysis (Software)
      • GIS/GPS
      • Drafting
  • Involvement in the work order process to complete engineering related projects to include:
    • Communications (Internal/External)
    • Preliminary Design
    • Estimating
    • Field Staking
    • As-Builts/GPS
  • Collaborate with other departments to complete projects efficiently
  • Develop knowledge of department procedures and company policies associated with engineering projects to improve member support
  • Develop technical knowledge related to engineering department functions through training provided
  • Work breakdown is approximately 50% Office/Paperwork and 50% Field Work
Qualifications

The candidate must have the following experience:

  • Either a relevant Engineering degree (Electrical/Civil/Mechanical) or High School Education with 10+ years of Electric Utility Construction experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings

The following are desired skills:

  • GIS/GPS
  • AutoCAD/Drafting
  • RUS design
  • NISC Software
  • Electric Utility Construction

Physical Skills Required

  • Ability to lift 15 lbs
  • Ability to walk long distances on uneven terrain
  • Ability to use basic tools such as a hammer and screwdriver
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
