Job Title: Reliability Manager – Peace River

Reports To: General Manager, Peace River Operations

Location: Peace River, AB

Safety Sensitive Role: Yes

Position Summary: The Reliability Manager plays an essential role in ensuring production operations maintain optimal performance through the development and implementation of maintenance strategies, processes, and practices The position is responsible for driving equipment reliability, process uptime, and maintenance efficiency at the frac sand production plant and loadout facility. Key deliverables will include reducing unplanned downtime, improving asset life cycles, and implementing best practices in predictive, preventive, and condition-based maintenance strategies. The Reliability Manager will lead root cause analysis (RCA), oversee critical equipment maintenance planning, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership & People Management

  • Provide direct leadership to maintenance team, including coaching, performance management, and employee development.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, and succession planning for maintenance team.
  • Ensure effective scheduling and staffing to meet demands while managing overtime and labor costs.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, and a positive work culture.
  • Ensure consistent enforcement of company policies, procedures, and standards.

Reliability & Downtime Reduction

  • Lead the reduction of unplanned downtime, with particular focus on recurring and chronic equipment failures.
  • Own and drive root cause analysis (RCA) for all significant downtime events; ensure corrective and preventative actions are completed, tracked, and sustained.
  • Identify and eliminate bad-actor equipment, process bottlenecks, and reliability gaps across wet and dry plant systems.
  • Establish clear reliability standards and enforce execution discipline across operations and maintenance
  • Monitor downtime trends and ensure learnings are translated into durable process improvements.

Maintenance Strategy & Asset Management

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs.
  • Partner closely with Maintenance and Operations to shift the site from reactive firefighting to planned maintenance execution.
  • Ensure PM compliance targets are met and maintenance quality standards are consistently achieved.
  • Maintain and prioritize critical equipment lists based on risk, downtime impact, and safety exposure.
  • Lead spare parts and inventory strategies to support equipment reliability and reduce extended outages.

Data, Systems & Performance Management

  • Ensure effective utilization and data integrity of the CMMS for work orders, failure coding, and maintenance history.
  • Develop and maintain key reliability metrics, dashboards, and reporting, including:
  • Unplanned vs. planned downtime
  • MTBF / MTTR (Mean Time Between Failures / Mean Time To Repair)
  • PM compliance
  • Equipment availability and OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
  • Use data to drive fact‑based decisions and prioritize reliability improvement initiatives.

Continuous Improvement & Cross‑Functional Leadership

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on uptime, cost reduction, and asset life-cycle optimization.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations leaders to align reliability priorities with production goals.
  • Provide coaching and hands-on training to supervisors, trades, and operators on reliability best practices.
  • Support capital planning, rebuild strategies, and reliability‑driven investment decisions.
  •  Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Reliability or maintenance certifications (e.g., CMRP) strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of reliability or maintenance leadership experience in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Experience in frac sand, aggregate, cement, mining, or mineral processing operations considered a strong asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
  • Rotating equipment
  • Pumps, conveyors, screens, crushers
  • Dryers, loaders, dust collection systems
  • Wet plant process equipment
  • Demonstrated success correcting chronic downtime and improving plant stability.
  • Working knowledge of Alberta OH&S and applicable regulations.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high‑pressure production environment.
