General Description of Job: We are seeking a Relay Engineer to design, configure, and maintain protective relay and control panel systems for substations, industrial facilities, and utility power systems. This role supports the safe and reliable operation of electrical systems by developing protection solutions that detect faults and isolate equipment to help prevent damage, outages, and safety risks.

Our regular work schedule is M-F 8AM-4:30PM with some overtime opportunities as needed.
Duties to include but not limited to:
ย 
  • Develop and implement protective relay schemes for power systems (transmission, distribution, industrial).
  • Calculate and configure relay settings, logic diagrams, and coordination studies. ย 
  • Perform fault analysis and system coordination to ensure proper protection design
  • Design control and relay panels (CRP) including: panel layouts, wiring schematics/dc control circuits
  • Create one-line, three-line diagrams, and elementary schematics. ย 
  • Develop Bill of Materials (BOM) and panel specifications.
  • Perform relay testing and commissioning using tools (Omicron, Doble, SEL).
  • Conduct field troubleshooting and diagnostics of protection systems.
  • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site commissioning.
  • Integrate relays with SCADA, RTUs, PLCs, and communication protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3).
  • Ensure data communication and monitoring capabilities in control panels.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Work with clients, contractors, and internal teams during design reviews and project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with IEEE, NEC, NERC, and utility standards.

Technical skill requirements:
ย 
  • Power system protection (relays, breakers, transformers)
  • Control panel design & wiring diagrams
  • Relay settings & coordination software (ASPEN, CAPE, CYME)
  • SCADA / communications systems
  • Fault analysis & troubleshooting

Requirements:
  • Associate/bachelorโ€™s degree in electrical engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years in protection & control / relay engineering
  • Preferred experience with utility or industrial systems
  • Knowledge of NERC / IEEE standards
  • 3-5 years of experience in relay testing, electrical maintenance, power systems, or industrial controls.
  • Understanding of protective relays, power distribution systems, and electrical protection schemes.
