Our growing research division produces industry-leading insights for investors, owners, developers, and lenders across the U.S. This includes our newsletter, The Matthews Market Pulse, which publishes weekly analyses for thousands of subscribers and followers on social media.
We are seeking a Research Writer with the analytical depth of a REIT or public-market analyst and the storytelling skill of a financial journalist. This individual will help shape the voice of Matthews Research by Kyle Matthews across X, LinkedIn, internal briefs, presentations, whitepapers, and The Matthews Market Pulse. This individual will drive the expansion of Matthews' digital presence by producing fast, accurate, and engaging market commentary.
This role is based in our Nashville, TN office.
Overview
The Research Writer will analyze commercial real estate trends, public REIT performance, earnings reports, industry data releases, and macroeconomic indicators. They will transform these into high-velocity, high-quality written content designed to grow Matthews' brand presence on X and LinkedIn.
This role requires a unique blend of:
  • Buy-side or sell-side analytical experience (ideally at a publicly traded REIT or investment firm)
  • Strong economic and financial modeling literacy
  • Ability to interpret CRE datasets
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling for a professional audience
  • Ability to craft viral, data-driven posts
  • Strong familiarity with financial Twitter/X culture
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation:
  • Write concise, data-driven daily/weekly posts for X and LinkedIn that explain REIT earnings, debt markets, macro releases, and property-type trends.
  • Produce articles, features, and special reports for Matthews Market Pulse and Matthews Research.
  • Draft scripts or talking points for leadership, brokers, and media appearances.
  • Craft visual, chart-driven posts, threads, and quick summaries to drive engagement.
  • Develop Matthews' voice as the leading real-time CRE + REIT insights account.
Research & Analysis:
  • Track earnings releases, debt markets, macroeconomic indicators, property-type fundamentals, and public-market valuations.
  • Interpret datasets from CoStar, RealPage, RCA, Moody's, Yardi Matrix, FRED, and others
  • Analyze REIT performance, valuations, capital markets, macroeconomic trends, and CRE fundamentals.
  • Build charts, visuals, and concise data summaries for both internal and external distribution.
  • Identify emerging CRE themes and propose timely story angles in collaboration with PR manager
Growth Strategy & Social Media Analytics:
  • Track daily engagement metrics, follower growth, peak posting windows, trending tags, and content formats that perform best.
  • Experiment with data-rich posts, heatmaps, charts, "5 takeaways," and earnings reaction threads.
  • Create a recognizable voice and style that drives engagement and industry influence.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Real Estate, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience at a REIT, investment bank, CRE research division, or financial analysis role.
  • Ability to write very quickly without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Comfortable interpreting complex datasets and building charts on short notice.
  • Familiarity with the tone, pacing, and structure of high-growth Twitter/X Fintwit accounts.

Salary Range - $75,000 - $95,000
